Celebration Sunday: Light the Fire
On Sunday, September 17, during and after each worship service, join us for a special Sunday of stories, worship, and intergenerational activities.

You may have seen this already in our congregational e-letter, but we had to include it in our Children, Youth, and Families e-letter too because this Celebration Sunday doubles as our Sunday School program kick off!

The only difference is that Celebration Sunday is not only for kids, but will involve the whole Advent community! All our activities will be intergenerational, and we'll have special things happening in worship too.

This Celebration Sunday will be all about exploring as a community how each of us can be a light of love to the world. We'll do this through the lenses of six Bible stories at six activity stations in the fellowship hall after 9am and 11am worship.

You are invited to participate, just as you and your whole family are called to be lights of love to others. Come join us Sunday, September 17 for Celebration Sunday: Light the Fire.

Following Celebration Sunday, Sunday School will continue regularly every Sunday from 10:05am-10:55am (between 9am and 11am worship).

This year Sunday School will be a totally reimagined program crafted by Pastor Danielle. Come to our first regular Sunday School on September 24 to learn more about what it will look like this year!
SparkHouse Book Fair
Here at Advent, starting this Sunday.

We have a selection of awesome new children's books from SparkHouse here at Advent! They will be out on the sanctuary back table for your perusing pleasure after worship this Sunday and for several weeks afterward.

You can order any of the books through us and get a discount. We've looked through the books ourselves and they are winners. They are primarily for toddlers and lower elementary children. Come take a look!

Talk to Pastor Danielle (pastordanielle@adventnyc) or Kevin ( if you are interested in ordering a book.
Youth Ministry: Possibilities
What's on the drawing board for Youth Ministry this school year.

Over my 4+ years (crazy, I know) working with youth and families at Advent, I've had the pleasure of get to know dozens of our middle and high schoolers; to facilitate moments of laugher, growth, and leadership through lock-ins, Vacation Bible Camp, Summer Suppers, internships, and many other programs. And still, every time fall is on the horizon, I find myself feeling we can do this better.

Pastor Danielle happens to also be the director of Pinecrest, a top-notch youth leadership camp and ministry. So she has helped me to draw up some intentional, substantial, and exciting programs for our high schoolers this year. Here's an introduction of what's on the drawing board for youth ministry this school year.

After an amazing trial run with six interns last school year, we are bringing back the communications internship for a second year. It teaches skills in communications, marketing, PR, graphic design, writing, photography, and more. And it's going deeper this year with a bold overarching mission to make our communications more inclusive to people of different languages, ages, backgrounds, and abilities. If your son or daughter is interested in getting internship experience while also serving at church and helping people in our community, please have them shoot me a text or send me an email at

The rest of the big possibilities on the drawing board are outlined in the picture above. I would love to have the help and perspective of one or two parents, and one or two high schoolers in pinning down dates and details for these for programs this school year. Let me know if you'd be willing to help! Email me at

I'll be sharing more details as they solidify. Looking forward to an awesome school year!
