The art of Rockwell and Wyeth were never even close to what was considered avant-garde, but they tapped into middle class values and ideals and that resulted in their enormous popularity. Come to this lecture to learn more.

Presenter Fred Dixon and his wife Martha collected art for 35 years and have traveled to many of the most important museums in the U.S., Europe and the cathedrals of Italy to view Renaissance and Baroque art. Fred’s book “700 Years Of Art History: Pre-Renaissance To Modernism,” from which parts of this lecture are taken, will be available at this event at the discounted price of $35.

I Want My Mummy!

This lecture is an introduction to the history behind ancient Egyptian mortuary practices, the mummification process developed through time, and the making of mummies! This talk will be illustrated by numerous unpublished images of actual ancient Egyptian mummies, including royalty, some collected as part of Dr. Steve's own archaeological excavations in Egypt.


Stephen “Dr. Steve” Phillips, Ph.D., is the Curatorial Research Coordinator in the Egyptian Section of the University of Pennsylvania Museum of Archaeology and Anthropology, Philadelphia (Penn Museum).
