Market Notes

Feeder prices were mostly higher across Mississippi. Feeder prices have continued to be strong this Fall as demand for stocker calves as well as feedlot demand are supporting prices. Cattle futures prices were also higher which is helping feeder prices as stocking operations see profit in grazing cattle until the Spring.

Cattlemen for Tax Reform

America’s tax code badly needs an update.
Devastating regulations, such as the Death Tax, are impeding growth and jeopardizing the long-term viability of family ranching operations. But the current system also includes critical provisions that account for the unique needs of agricultural producers. Cattlemen and women across the country – and the rural communities that depend on them – cannot afford a one-size-fits-all approach. We are fighting for a tax code that protects family-owned ranches and revitalizes rural America.

NAHMS Is Coming

The USDA along with the National Agricultural Statistics Service (NASS) will launch NHAMS (National Animal Health Monitoring System), the beef cow-calf operations study that will take and in-depth look at beef cow-calf operations and provide valuable information regarding trends. Your NASDA enumerator will contact you in October to talk with you about this survey.
This will be the fourth  NAHMS cow-calf study of the beef industry. The study will involve producers in 20+ States representing more than 70 percent of beef cows and beef cow operations in the United States. The study will involve interviews with producers to ask about health and management of their cattle. The data from the study will be reported in summary form; individual responses will be confidential.
