Museum of Contemporary Art San Diego, Downtown

MCASD Downtown presents Bodies in Trouble, highlighting the work of ten graduating artists in the Master of Fine Arts program at UCSD. Many of the works react to the ever-increasing coding and disciplining of bodies along lines of gender, race, legality, and economic status. In response to such pressures, these artists have adopted strategies that range from efforts to subversively inhabit and symptomatize bodies, to satire, social critique and camp performance. Bodies in Trouble is on view through June 17, 2018.

  • June 10 - This is Home: The story of four Syrian refugee families sent to resettle in Baltimore.
  • June 17 - New Neighbors Project: In their voices, through their own eyes – self-directed refugee films from the new American West.

PERFORMING ARTS UPDATES

La Jolla Playhouse

The La Jolla Playhouse presents The Squirrels, June 5th through July 1st, 2018. Winter is on its way, and the squirrels are restless. Mistrust is growing between the Gray Squirrels, who enjoy a rich cache of nuts, and the outcast and hungry Fox Squirrels. When a wily outsider ignites a savage war, the consequences are catastrophic. This epic play shows the animal instincts driving us all.

Tony Award winner Christopher Ashley (Come From Away) directs Tony Award nominee Robert Askins’ (Hand to God) ambitious, out-landishly funny (and downright furry) new play.

For ticket information, visit www.lajollaplayhouse.org.

The books are the source of her dark magic, which she uses to lure her enemies to the island so she can exact revenge. But her plot could destroy Miranda’s happiness, so Prospera must choose between her own anger and her daughter’s future. Under the direction of the renowned Joe Dowling, this enchanting fantasy kicks off the 2018 Shakespeare Festival with spectacle under the stars.
