How Do We Measure Ministry?
God’s reach is endless. God’s love is unmeasurable. And the transformation that occurs when we come in contact with the power of the Gospel is beyond what we can fathom or sum.

And yet, there are signs along the way, signs that God is at work through us and in spite of us.

This Budget of Ministries gives us a roadmap, marking our journey, and pointing to the ways that God is at work.  These numbers each tell a story, reflect a relationship, and speak to the finances, time and talents so many disciples give to the ministry and mission here at Advent.

Thank you for your commitment to God’s mission and ministry here at Advent.  Your discipleship to Jesus Christ makes a difference in the world and in the lives of very real people.

Consider how you can continue to support and strengthen God’s ministry through Advent using your resources, time and talents.

2019 Stewardship
This Sunday, Advent members will be invited to reflect on their practice of stewardship through Advent and the global Lutheran Church.

Stewardship is the belief that we are called to care for the world God made and all the inhabitants in it. We do this through the use of God's gifts in our lives -- our selves, our time, and our resources.

Stewardship pledges made this fall for 2019 are the basis of our 2019 budget, and therefore the scope and impact of our ministry next year. We ask that you continue your process of reflection about your stewardship through Advent in the coming weeks.

2019 Budget Hearing
Sunday, November 25 | 10am & 12pm | The Community Hall downstairs

Coinciding with this time of focusing on stewardship, our Council invites you to a Budget Hearing Sunday November 25, offered at 10am and 12pm. This is an opportunity to learn more and give input about the development of our 2019 Budget.  If you are away this holiday weekend, but would like to participate, please let us know and we will set up an alternative time to meet.
Udugu Sunday is this Sunday!
Udugu means "companionship" in Swahili. The word expresses equality, mutual support, and a commitment to walking together. In this spirit we will lift up our new sister church in Tanzania, and reflect on our stewardship through the ministry of Advent and the global Lutheran Church.

Worship | 9am & 11am in English, 12:30pm in Spanish

Get ready for Tanzanian-style worship! Spoiler: It includes a lot of Lutheran hymns. Tanzanian Lutherans are Lutherans, and sing from the same hymnal we do, translated into their own language, Swahili.

One unique element of Tanzanian worship we'll be doing is an offering of food for the community. Bring non-perishables with you to worship to participate in this offering. Also, Pastor Margay Whitlock, an Advent member who happens to also be a pastor, will preach about her own experience in Tanzania in August.

Learn about our new Sister Congregation | 10-11am

Learn more about our new sister church in Tanzania from members of our Tanzania Committee. The presentation and discussion will take place downstairs, in the back half of the Community Hall.

Multicultural Thanksgiving Meal | 12pm

To close the day, join us for a multicultural Thanksgiving Meal with our whole community, including cuisine from Tanzania and El Salvador. Gathered around the table, we'll give thanks for diversity and celebrate that we are all one in Christ! Bring a Thanksgiving dish that represents your culture or tradition.
Intergenerational Choir this Sunday
Sing with our new intergenerational choir, "One Voice Singers," at 11am worship this Sunday, November 18.

Adults and teens are invited to join our Sunday School kids  in singing a fun tune from the Congo in worship this Sunday! Join us for a single rehearsal at 10:20am in the sanctuary this Sunday to sing with the choir in 11am worship. Let's make one voice together on this special Sunday!

Advocacy at Advent
Through our Evangelical Lutheran Church in America (ELCA) Accompanying Migrant Minors with Protection, Advocacy, Representation and Opportunities (AMMPARO) strategy and our global ministries, the church connects to churches and organizations in the countries from which people are fleeing.

"As a church, we cannot remain silent as our asylum laws are unilaterally changed and our nation’s door is shut to people fleeing dire humanitarian situations. From our companion churches in Central America, our church knows many people leave to escape grinding poverty, violence or persecution and to seek a better life for their children,” said the Rev. Elizabeth A. Eaton, presiding bishop of the ELCA. "As Lutherans, we have long advocated for reliable and consistent implementation of laws governing asylum-seekers and urge the Administration to continue to ensure broad protection for all who need it and due process at the border."

As a Christian church familiar with immigrant origins, the ELCA firmly stands against policies that hinder immigrants' legal right to claim asylum. As we pray that the Lord keeps them safe on their journey, we call on people of faith to look with compassion on members of the human family fleeing violence and persecution. Learn how you can take action >
