For 3 years, he served on the district's Lay Servant Committee where he taught two lay servant classes. As a certified lay servant, John has the opportunity to present the message at any UMC in our district. He leads the non-denominational religious service about four times annually at Chippewa Place, the independent living community designed for seniors. Youth Ministry Week of Gratitude, November 20 - 26
Our busy lives can feel like a never-ending wheel of doing, scheduling, and going. Taking time for gratitude is one way we slow down and enjoy the wonderful people that God has placed in our lives. This year we encourage our students and families to say "thank you" to those people. For one week we will take a break from meeting (no youth group this week) and practice intentional gratitude. Through daily challenges and devotionals, participants will be asked to write notes of gratitude to those who have shaped their lives. The 2017 Week of Gratitude will be completely on social media so be sure to follow us on Twitter, Facebook, and Instagram! (Click the blue links to visit!)

Jesus, Bombs, and Ice Cream: An Advent Study for High School Students led by High School Students
“Let there be peace on earth and let it begin…” with ice cream? When we read the headlines or watch the news it is obvious that our world does not know peace. There are two choices, ignore it or face it. This study aims to help us face our unsettling world and seek ways to understand and make a difference. Students, we challenge you to join our Sunday School class and open up discussion about war, peace, and what Jesus says about both. This study was co-written by the “Ben” of Ben and Jerry’s ice cream and what he has to say may just surprise you. Hope to see you at 10am in the Youth Room!

Poinsettias For Hunger:  Orders due December 3
Remembering family and friends with a church poinsettia is a beloved Christmas tradition of Brecksville United Methodist Church.  By dedicating a poinsettia, you help beautify the sanctuary for worship and help feed the hungry!  This is our third year of ordering large pots of flowers and only enough small plants to deliver to the home bound.  All money raised above what’s needed to purchase flowers will be given to the Brookside Food Center in Cleveland to help our hungry neighbors have a happier, healthier Christmas and New Year.  Last year, we raised over $500!  Click here to download an order form.

Christmas Cards for the Cleveland VA
We're well on our way toward our goal of delivering a Christmas card with a brief, caring,  encouraging handwritten note to every patient at the Louis B. Stokes Cleveland VA Medical Center this Christmas!  There are 586 beds in the hospital, and we're collecting cards through December 3.   Can you help?  Pick up a box of cards and take them to work, to school, to a dinner party, or your book club. Ask your friends to sign a card.  The Fellowship Committee has cards in the lobby, too.  Bring your finished cards back to church.  It’s a beautiful way to share God’s love, to say thanks,  and to celebrate the reason for the season!  Not sure what to write? The Sunday bulletin from Veterans Day has some ideas to get you started!

BUMC Night Out!

A Cold, Cold Reading of Charles Dickens’
A Christmas Carol

Saturday, December 16 at 6 pm.  Tickets are $12 for adults.

Children 12 and under are $8.

Charles Dickens’ A Christmas Carol was first published on December 17, 1843. Forty-nine days later, it received its first stage adaptations, three of them to be exact, in London. Since then the popular novel has received scores then hundreds and now thousands of readings and productions, yearly. But rarely is it presented in the brisk night air of winter…in a barn. The Lantern Theatre presents A Cold, Cold Reading of Charles Dickens’ A Christmas Carol. Now in its sixth year, it has become a cherished Christmas and family tradition. Beginning at 6 pm on the night of December 16, 2017, six brave actors and a piano accompanist will take the stage in Gleeson’s barn to read Mr. Dickens’ masterwork. The reading will be accompanied by hot cocoa, cider and baked goods and will be followed by Christmas Carols sung by all. Dress warmly. It’s a barn.

WE HAVE RESERVED A BLOCK OF TICKETS.
