Our 2019 Lenten Theme!

This year, our Lenten theme is
"Prophets, Poets, Disciples: What it Means to Follow Jesus."

This Lenten Season, we will explore together what it means to daily follow Jesus, grounded in his life, death, and resurrection.  Our conversations will be framed around Luke 4:18-19, the final weeks of Jesus life, and the lives of the disciples/saint(s) recognized each Sunday who embody what it means to be a disciple of Jesus.

March 10 | Lent 1: Harriet Tubman/ Sojourner Truth
What does it mean to follow Jesus into freedom?

March 17 | Lent 2: St. Patrick
What does it mean to follow Jesus into vision?

March 24 | Lent 3: Oscar Romero
What does it mean to follow Jesus into accompaniment?

March 31| Lent 4: John Donne
What does it mean to follow Jesus in proclaiming God's presence?

April 7 | Lent 5: Bonhoeffer
What does it mean to follow Jesus into both uncertainty and joy?

Stay tuned for information about all the ways we will explore these themes throughout Lent, including Sunday Adult Faith Formation, Discipleship Groups, Daily Devotions, and more.

The simple, holy practice of praying for each other

As we prepare to enter Lent and the "Listening" phase of our Visioning Process, the congregation is invited to pray for one another. Starting on February 1, through March 5, we will pray through the roster of our community.

*If you see your name or someone else's name missing from our Prayer Calendar, please know it was a clerical error or typo, and it's our sincere intention to include everyone. Please let us know so we can correct it >

Vision Team Check-In

Our Vision Team is thinking deeply about all the voices and insights heard at our Vision & Mission Retreat on January 12. They collected detailed notes from every small group, 250+ post-it responses, and 25 retreat reflection surveys.

On Martin Luther King Jr. Day, January 21, the team met over Google Hangouts to begin discussing the themes and common threads in all of these perspectives, and how they might inform our next steps through the "Engage" and "Listening" phases.

The Vision Team met again last Sunday to continue developing our next steps, and will have more news about our "Listening" phase very soon!

Sunday School & Intergenerational Choir

Opportunities to learn, grow, and sing!

We have had two fun weeks of review through a trivia game in Sunday School! This Sunday, we will dive back in to learning about more faithful folk this week with a lesson on Mary and Martha.

In addition, Advent's Director of Music, Frank, will return to our class to teach us some new songs this semester and those kids (and parents!) who wish to sing in our intergenerational choir will have three opportunities to do so before the end of the school year! For those who would like to sing in the choir during worship, put the following dates on your calendar (all performances will take place at the 11am service):

February 17
March 17
April 14

We hope that you and your child might join us in singing! Have questions? Email Vicar Abby.
