Remember in Prayer
The pregnancies of Mary and Elizabeth remind us that with God all things are possible. We give thanks and praise to God for bringing good news and redemption to the world through Elizabeth and Mary, and we pray for the wellbeing and health of all expectant mothers as well as those who are trying to conceive. More prayers...

Synod Blog: If Church Had Commencement
By Pr. Erika Uthe
‘Tis the season. My fridge is plastered with graduation open house invitations as our young people celebrate their accomplishments, look to the future, and revel in the glory of having successfully navigated what is becoming an increasingly difficult journey through school. While the nature of these celebrations is something that ought to be discussed at some point, I think that there is something to celebrations. Something significant is happening. Something familiar and routine is ending and the future is wide open, unknown, and spread out before them. Continue reading...

A Place for All
As members of the ELCA, we believe that we are a church that belongs to Christ. There is a place for everyone here. On May 25, ELCA Presiding Bishop Elizabeth Eaton hosted a live webcast, “A Place for All,” where a panel explored what it means to be a welcoming congregation within the ELCA. Did you miss the live viewing? Find a recording of the webcast and congregational resources at ELCA.org/webcast.

Upcoming administration workshops
Administration and finance are important to the health of your congregation. Having a firm grasp on your congregation’s finances will have a positive impact on your local ministry; as well as the ministries that we do together as the ELCA.

In 2016 the Southeastern Iowa Synod will be offering several workshops to help with administration and finance in your congregation. The June workshop will be general information; the two workshops planned for later in the year will be more focused.
These workshops are provided at no cost to congregations of the Southeastern Iowa Synod.   Pre-registration is encouraged.

Practice Discipleship Initiative
Join us for our first Practice Discipleship offering June 11 at Faith Lutheran in Eldridge from 10 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. as we engage in Wondering Through Service Learning and Wondering in Prayer. Training is FREE! Lunch is provided ($5 per person). Register for the June 11 training online.

Wondering through Service Learning – Service learning moves service projects and mission trips from one-time events to experiences that open minds and hearts to new ways of thinking and acting. For example, youth might ponder tough questions about poverty in your hometown, notice the incredible artistry within God's creation, or glimpse the wisdom of a senior citizen in a simple conversation. By emphasizing adequate preparation, intentional reflection, and sharing stories with others, service experiences can be brought to life in profound, astonishing ways. (written by Mark Jackson, Professor & Chair of Children, Youth & Family Studies, Director, Center for Community Engagement, Trinity Lutheran College)

Wondering in Prayer – We teach children the Lord’s Prayer and prayers for meals and bedtimes, and we often teach children how to pray for friends and family. We often stop there. But we are called to worship God with all of heart and soul
and mind. So, in this session we will explore prayer forms that engage the senses and the imagination, opening a space for us both to dwell and to wonder in God. (written by Dr. Mindy Makant, Assistant Professor of Religious Studies, Lenoir-Rhyne University)
