8 Questions for Pastor Danielle

Pastor Danielle Miller, our new Senior Pastor, will join us for her first Sunday on May 14. On the weekend this congregation voted to extend a call to Pastor Danielle, we had the opportunity to ask the important questions at a Q&A on Saturday, and hear her preach in worship on Sunday. Now begins the journey of really getting to know Pastor Danielle as we walk forward in ministry and community together. Since we're all eager to learn more about Pastor Danielle, we asked her to respond to a few questions, both theological and trivial, to share with you here.

What is your favorite book or TV show?

Choosing a favorite book is like choosing a favorite child, an impossibility. Favorite TV show however, that one is easy, Buffy the Vampire Slayer.

How do you think prayer translates to action?

Richard Foster writes in Prayer: Finding the Hearts True Home, “The true prophetic message always calls us to a spiritual defiance of the world as it now is. Our prayer, to the extent that it is fully authentic, undermines the status quo. It is a spiritual underground resistance movement. We are subversives in a world of injustice, oppression, and violence.”

Prayer reorients the way we experience the world and in that new view, we are compelled, empowered and privileged to put hands, feet, and voice to the kingdom vision we’ve encountered. Prayer that does not translate to action is often prayer that does not listen.

If you could have any superpower, what would it be?

I’m fond of Wonder Woman’s Lasso of Truth. I’d like to find myself one of those!

What's one of your family's favorite things to do together?

Impromptu dance parties and sing-alongs are always crowd pleasers! But more than anything, we enjoy simply being together.

We'll share 4 more questions and answers in next Monday's e-letter, as we anticipate Pastor Danielle's first Sunday at Advent on May 14. We hope you are excited to welcome Pastor Danielle and begin an exciting new chapter in the life of Advent! Thanks to our youth communications interns, Alex and Lily, for coming up with most of these questions.

This Sunday, May 7 at 10:10am in the basement fellowship hall

The Congregation Council invites you to a congregational update this Sunday, May 7 at 10:10am to hear news about our financial position after the first four months of the year. This update will be a time for us to review our status before Pastor Danielle begins, as well as a time to learn how you can be of support with your time, talent, and possessions.

This is also Pastor Ann's last Sunday with us as Interim Senior Pastor, so please come join us this Sunday in worship with Pastor Ann, and in this important meeting with our Congregation Council.
