Dear friends,

We've had lots of celebrations of Israel's Independence Day and 70th birthday this week!  Of course food has been a part of all of it.  We had celebration lunches of Israeli food at both Jewish Home Assisted Living and the Jewish Home at Rockleigh.  And we had blue and white treats across the board--blue and white cookies in the Gallen Center, blue and white cupcakes at Jewish Home Assisted Living and blue and white challah at the Jewish Home at Rockleigh! Our 2015 Mission to Israel was featured in a number of events, with the video that we made after that trip shown a few times.  Residents who took part in that adventure also shared their experiences during the programs. If you haven't seen it, here's a link for you:  We are preparing for our next Mission in October 2018 and are excited to be gathering residents and staff to take part!

On Monday evening of this week, we were delighted to partner, once again, with Englewood Hospital Medical Center for a special program featuring the latest research updates on Parkinson's disease. Dr. Samantha Hutten, Senior Associate Director of Research at the Michael J. Fox Foundation, gave a great presentation on the work that is currently underway.  Dr. Hutten the joined a panel which included Harvey Gross, MD, medical director of the Jewish Home and neurologist Rikki Racel, MD.  There were many questions from the crowd of nearly 200 community members. Wednesday afternoon was highlighted by a different kind of presentation.  I had the opportunity to join attorneys Steven Morey Greenberg and Linda Spiegel in a presentation to the Bergen County Bar Association.  We talked about elder services and elder law to a full room of interested and engaged lawyers. Thanks to both of them for giving us this platform.

Other highlights of the week included a Parade of Lights at the Jewish Home at Rockleigh on Thursday, filling our Main Street area with blue and white lights and both staff and residents dressed in the colors of the Israeli flag.  Earth Day programs were also on the agenda and part of this weeks's special programming.
