This art exhibition by Silky Hart features the magic of Oaxaca, Mexico that is alive in this new painting series. Festive colors, women dancing with baskets and imaginary creatures are some of the impressions Silky artistically captures from a recent excursion to Oaxaca. McKinney Square Book Festival

The second annual McKinney Square Book Festival showcases Texas authors. 
Country music star Billy Dawson will once again entertain attendees for an afternoon of live music. This free event takes place  all day Saturday at the Church Street Auditorium, 306 N. Church.
 
 
 
 
Ariel Posen Live at the Sanctuary

The Guitar Sanctuary presents guitarist Ariel Posen with special guests Jason Elmore & Hoodoo Witch at The Sanctuary Music & Events Center on Friday at 8 p.m. (Doors open at 7 p.m.) VIP Tables with seating for four directly, $125 per table. Schon Everywhere International Pop-Up Gallery  (Thru Sept. 29)
Schon Everywhere is an international pop-up gallery partnership between the Heard-Craig Center for the Arts in McKinney and the Freya Frahm Haus in Laboe, Germany. Charity Classic Golf Tournament

Play the Pete Dye Golf course for a scramble tournament and a charitable donation to McKinney Education Foundation and ALS. Register at classic.als.net/sbrcc2018. (Saturday) Trinity Falls hosts an afternoon of fun, rodeo style, during Rodeo on the River, 4-8 p.m., Saturday. North Texas Giving Day Party in the Park
(Thursday)
Non-profits across North Texas will participate in this 10th annual event. Donations of $25 or more to any registered organization qualifies for possible additional funds distributed at the end of the event. Volunteer McKinney is hosting a Party in the Park event from 4:30-7 p.m. at Finch Park, 301 W. Standifer, where more than 50 non-profits will be  able to interact potential donors.

Dinosaurs Live (Shown, thru Feb. 18, 2019)  
Encounter the 46-foot T-Rex and nine new life-size animatronic dinosaurs along the nature trails at the 13th Annual Dinosaurs Live! The exhibit gives families and friends a fun, educational activity to enjoy together. This year, the exhibit also features an outdoor fossil dig. The dinosaur trail is jogging stroller friendly, but not suitable for wheelchairs or strollers with small wheels.

Moth Migration Project (Thru Sept. 30) The Moth Migration Project is a crowd-sourced collection of hand printed, drawn and cut paper moths founded by Hilary Lorenz. This collection will be exhibited in an installation along walls of the Heard exhibit halls. The featured moths will include species native to our region.

Nature Storytime (Friday)
This weekly storytime focuses on nature-related stories to engage children in learning and the appreciation and care of nature. Included with general admission to the museum. 10:30-11 a.m.

Native Texas Butterfly House & Garden (Open thru September) Walk among free-flying native butterflies and other pollinators. The butterfly house includes native species, which vary by season and what is available from suppliers. The garden is filled with host plants that naturally attract butterflies. War Hero Bobby Younger Exhibit:
 Visit a replica of the bedroom of Bobby Younger, a 1942 McKinney High graduate, and a gunner on a B-17 during WWII, Bobby Younger, was finally laid to rest 74 years after he was gunned down. Tours are at 11 a.m. Thursdays and Saturdays. Private tours, call. 972-562-8790. 315 S. Chestnut.
