Dear Friend:
New York State is leading the way with some of the most aggressive goals and standards for clean energy in the country. And all eyes are on Westchester County as a driving force that other communities in New York (and the nation) will follow.
This was the theme of Bedford 2020's Power Up for Clean Energy New York conference last week where over 200 attendees, including some of the State's foremost leaders in the field of energy, gathered in one room with key players - business leaders, investors, elected leaders, policy makers, representatives from low-income constituencies, and environmental leaders - to discuss State energy goals and strategies.

The goals behind the state's innovative Reforming the Energy Vision (REV) program are to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, develop local renewable energy generation, and transition to a clean energy economy. At the Power Up event, Audrey Zibelman, Chair of the Public Service Commission, emphasized that the key to making this transition is not a government "top-down" approach, but instead a grass roots, collaborative approach by communities, organizations, business leaders and investors.
That is exactly what the leaders gathered together at the White Plains Performing Arts Center last week are determined to do. Both speakers and participants encouraged communities to take on:
- CCA opt up to 100% renewable energy
- state-wide CCA expansion
- piloting community solar or micro-grids,
- peak demand reduction campaigns,
- mapping of renewable energy sites,
- public education,
- smart-home solutions,
- energy efficiency,
- affordability of renewable energy for low-income residents,
- electric vehicles and
- battery storage.

Thank you to those of you who attended the Power Up event for making it such a great success.
The event culminated with both experts and stakeholders agreeing that this conversation marked a “beginning” and represented the first day of a movement to the drive the strategies, technological advancements, policy changes, and community action that will create a clean energy future for New York State.
