In July and August we close on Saturdays. You get very busy on summer weekends and it's very expensive to run an empty library!  We know you want us to spend your tax dollars wisely!

If you have a book to pick up our hold shelf and you absolutely cannot get to the library during our open hours, please call or e-mail Amy, 294-4109, director@exeterpubliclibrary.org and we'll make secret arrangements for you to pick it up after hours.

You know that super popular book that everyone is talking about?
Or that summer reading book that all the kids need to read?
Chances are really good that we own a copy or two.
Chances are also really good that you'll never see it sitting on our shelves!

If there is a book you would like to read, we encourage you to "place a hold" on it.

Even if there are 300 people already on the list, our copy will go to people picking up in Exeter first.

If no one from Exeter is waiting for the book, it will go to the first person on the list from any library and continue down the list until someone from Exeter requests it or when everyone on the list has gotten a copy. Then it ends up back on our shelves.

If the book does not have a waiting list, and it's checked out or we do not own it, another library will send a copy to us for you and it usually takes about a week to arrive.

You can also place a hold on movies.  The movies we own usually do not fill any requests on the waiting list until we have owned them for at least a month, so you have a chance to find something good on the New Movie shelf when you stop in. If we purchase second copies of movies, that copy will fill holds right away.

Once a book arrives for you, you have one week to pick it up before we have to send it back to the owning library or on to the next person on the list. If you cannot pick up the book before we need to send it back, please call Amy, 294-4109 or email director@exeterpubliclibrary.org and we'll check to see if we can keep it for a few extra days. For the summer, if you cannot pick up a book while the library is open, you can also contact Amy and we'll arrange an after-hours pickup.

Our Summer Reading Program is for EVERY Member of the Family!

We believe that everyone should spend some time relaxing and reading, and that everyone should read something they enjoy, so we try not to make our Summer Reading Club a chore.  We don't ask you to keep track of the number of books or number of hours, instead of rewarding you for reading, we reward you for logging in and sharing what you read.

We also think that parents and teenagers should set good examples for younger children, so we let them participate in our reading club too!

Starting July 11th, you can visit our website at home, on your device or in the library and fill out an online reading form (we save a lot of paper this way!)  Answer some simple questions about what you've read, or had read to you,  up to 5 books per week, and you are entered into our weekly raffle.  There are no sign-ups for our Summer Reading Club.

Visit our website starting July 11, www.exeterpubliclibrary.org and the link to our online Reading Club form will be right in the middle of the screen!
