Week 4, Day 6
"Fasting" from: Unsustainable Food Products | Some strategies: try a vegetarian diet, eat less meat, buy & eat locally grown food

For today's devotion, read the quote and poem below from Advent member, Kirsten Sadler.

As Zella said in yesterday's video, God gives humans dominion over the earth and its animals. How quick people are to feel superior, though, just because we've been assigned to be the caretakers? In her poem, Kirsten shares an alternative view.

Head up: Next week (our last week!), we will "fasting" from electricity and gas. Get ready turn off more lights, unplug unused appliances, and wear more sweaters so you can keep that heater turned lower (unless you have a radiator, and your super controls it for you).

Today's Devotion
“We patronize (animals) for their incompleteness, for their tragic fate for having taken form so far below ourselves. And therein do we err. For the animal shall not be measured by man. In a world older and more complete than ours, they move finished and complete, gifted with the extension of the senses we have lost or never attained, living by voices we shall never hear.”

To assume superiority
In the face of
The evidence of
A dog’s nose
A horse’s speed
An eagle’s eye
A cat’s lithe grace
A snake’s sinuous slither
Is madness
Is to disavow the Creator’s design
Is to lose all hope of hearing their voices
Today's Daily Action
Time: 5-10 min

Spend some time caring for an animal, your pet or a friend's -- and be mindful to remove all sense of belittlement, condescending, or superiority. Replace these with awe, reverence, respect, and love for this beautiful creation of God.
