Still in the Wilderness . . .
Wow, Lent is long, right? Especially if you're participating in our carbon fast or some other kind of fast during Lent, it may be starting to feel like there is no end. Next week, we'll have Palm Sunday to look forward to at the end of the week. But this week, we are still very much in the wilderness of Lent.

The Israelites wandered in the wilderness not for 40 days, but for 40 years. And they didn't know for sure when the end would be. They had to trust God. At this moment in our Lenten journey, maybe we can understand why they got a little frustrated and lost along the way.

This is the moment to remember: When you're in the wilderness, God is with you, waiting for you to notice something, to learn something, to really trust, to grow, and see anew.

Stay in the wilderness. Just a bit longer. (That being said, it wouldn't hurt to look ahead at the Holy Week worship times below and get those on your calendar.)
Holy Week at Advent
Palm Sunday | Sunday, March 25
Worship at 9am & 11am in English, 12:30pm in Spanish

We begin Palm Sunday worship outside, gathering around our front steps on Broadway. Then we process inside waving palms like those welcoming Jesus to Jerusalem.
Maundy Thursday | Thurs, March 29
Worship at 7:30pm in English

On Maundy Thursday, we share Holy Communion as disciples gathered around the table, remembering those who did first. Our worship will also focus on forgiveness and prayer.
Good Friday | Friday, March 30
Worship at 12pm in English, 3pm in Spanish, and 7:30pm in English

On Good Friday, we have three unique worship times. The 12pm service is made especially for kids, but welcome to all. At 3pm, we have the Stations of the Cross in Spanish. And at 7:30pm, we journey through Jesus’ last hours with special readings and music by the Advent Chorale accompanied by a chamber orchestra.
Easter Vigil | Saturday, March 31
Worship at 8pm in English

At our Easter Vigil worship, we light the traditional Pascal Candle outside and carry it into the church. Then we light our individual candles from it. In anticipation, we hear readings from the Old Testament for telling the coming the Christ and the resurrection.
Easter Sunday | Sunday, April 1
Worship at 9am & 11am in English, 12:30pm in Spanish

Easter Sunday at Advent is a joyous day! The Advent Chorale, Easter Lilies, trumpet, and Easter Breakfast downstairs from 10am-12:30pm make this a special day of celebrating love and community in Christ. Come join us!
Gratitude Check-In
Stop.  Pause. Breathe.  And take a moment to give thanks to God.

Today’s gratitude check-in:  Food

It is important to take time in the midst of our busy days to give thanks to God for all the blessings in our lives.  And so today we give thanks for food and all that it sustains: people, animals, creation. God is abundant. May we live into that abundance.

Humble our hearts, God of All, and open us to gratitude for these and all our blessings. In Jesus name Amen.
Our palms will look different this year, and for a good reason.

While palms are a fun and festive addition to Palm Sunday, unfortunately many mainstream palm distributers mistreat and underpay their workers, and over-harvest forests.

This year we purchased our palms through an eco-palm provider that gathers and sells palms in a socially and environmentally just way.

This also means we'll be receiving real, whole palm fronds, not the convenient slivers you might be used to. But much closer to what would have been used when Jesus entered into Jerusalem!
Dedicating Easter Lilies
An Easter Lily is a wonderful way to celebrate God's creation while honoring or remembering loved ones or an occasion. Lilies are $20 each. They are potted plants, so each has several flowers. If you would like to give an Easter Lily in honor/memory of a person or occasion, you can do so on our website.
20s/30s Brunch this Sunday
Join us for brunch at the nearby Earth Cafe this Sunday! We'll meet at the back of the sanctuary after 11am worship.
Join the Advent Chorale for Easter
Interested in singing with our Advent Chorale? Want to join in time for Easter morning? You can!

Come to rehearsal on Thursday, March 22, at 7:30pm and then on Easter morning at 10:10am. The Chorale will be doing a simpler anthem by Handel that will be lively and fun to sing (with organ and trumpet), so it's a comfortable and fun way to start if you are interested in joining.
Special Music this Sunday
This Sunday, the University of Kentucky Men's Choir will share a musical offering at 11am worship.
