Tutor with X-Cel Education

Monday, January 8th | 10:00 AM - 12:30 PM

 Teach Basic math and Beginning Algebra skills to adult students who are preparing for their High School Equivalency exam. The math instruction will be done individually and in small groups. All math instruction materials will be provided by X-Cel. For first time volunteers, experienced volunteers will be present in addition to the project leader to offer advice, support and direction. No advanced math skills are needed for this project.  
X-Cel, Inc. Adult Education was founded in 2000 by two adult educators with the vision of providing quality adult education services to residents of Greater Boston. X-Cel’s mission is to make high school completion, post-secondary study, and sustainable career paths more accessible to underserved communities in Greater Boston, by providing flexible, customized instruction and career readiness development at no cost in convenient community locations.

Cook for the Critically Ill at Community Servings
Friday, January 5th | 1:00 PM- 4:00 PM

Each day Community Servings prepares and packages 1000 meals for men, women, and children who are struggling with acute life threatening illnesses. Join the Community Servings chefs in the kitchen preparing food for the critically ill. Volunteers will help the staff slice, chop, cook, assemble, and package meals for individuals and families battling HIV/AIDS, breast cancer, multiple sclerosis, or other life-threatening illnesses.
Volunteers must wear shirts with sleeves, long pants (no leggings), a hat and shoes that completely cover the foot. Volunteers must also be in good health to assist in the kitchen. Even common colds can pose a risk to clients.

Join the Boston Cares Corps!

The Boston Cares Corps Program is an impact driven opportunity for volunteers dedicated to building and strengthening their skills, deepening their community engagement, and making a difference in the lives of Greater Bostonians. Our Corps focus on improving skills and resources in ESOL, Basic Technology, and Youth and Education. The Corps program combines Boston Cares’ signature flexibility with a focused commitment to a partner and the resources to make a measurable change. The Corps Kickoff will allow you to get to know individual partners and their programs!

Organize the Supply Closet at Tech Boston Academy
Wednesday, January 10th | 1:00PM-3:00PM

Help TechBoston Academy start off the new year with a clean and organize supply closet! We're looking for seven volunteers to assist in moving boxes, sorting supplies and organizing shelves for this incredible BPS School in Dorchester. Volunteers should come prepared for a bit of dust and should be able to lift 10-15 lbs comfortably. TechBoston Academy (TBA) is a Boston public school that is committed to providing students with a nurturing and supportive social environment, and a rigorous college preparatory curriculum.

Registration for MLK Day 2018 is open! Make it a “Day On, Not a Day Off” and join 600 volunteers in projects supporting Boston’s immigrant community through the creation of educational tools for English Language Learners. Boston Cares’ MLK Day of Service is open to volunteers ages 5+, and a great opportunity for groups! You can also join us as an event sponsor and help us build beds for children in need.
