Volunteer Powered & Making an Impact
Missouri Stream Team's "Volunteer Water Quality Monitoring Program" began in 1993. Since that time, thousands of individuals, families, groups of concerned citizens, classrooms, clubs, and organizations (like the James River Basin Partnership) have been trained to collect water quality data from Missouri streams. In 2011, the first data summary report was completed, which compiled and analyzed the volunteer data from 1993 - 2010.

This 2018 report includes an additional six years of data and analysis of water chemistry samples at 627 sites and macroinvertebrate monitoring at 413 sites across the state. The results are summarized and interpreted for each of the 13 regions of the state. In total, the report compiles and summarizes data from over 40,000 sampling events.

This effort by Stream Teams United and Missouri Stream Team was made possible through the compilation and interpretation work of Dan Obrecht and Tony Thorpe, University of Missouri Senior Research Associates. The project was funded by the Missouri Department of Natural Resources.

Missouri has 110,000 miles of streams that provide recreation, water, and serenity for ourselves and our children - but our streams need your help.

If you are a Stream Team newcomer, you need to know that (most importantly) Stream Teams are people with an interest and a passion for Missouri streams! Does this sound like something you can relate to?

Missouri citizens have chosen to adopt-a-stream, attend training class(es), volunteer their own time and effort to improve their stream, and have banded together with other Stream Teams to help improve our state's water.

If you are thinking about forming or joining a Stream Team, please explore their website and learn more about how Missouri Stream Team and the water quality community in Missouri can use your help!
