The Board of Directors of the Heritage Library is saddened to hear of the passing of Rev. Dr. Robert E. H. Peeples, founder of the Hilton Head Island Historical Society and well-known Lowcountry historian. The Historical Society merged with The Heritage Library in 2005, and Robert continued to be an ardent supporter of the library until his death.

"Robert was a huge influence in Lowcountry history and genealogy since he came to the island in the 1950s, and a prolific writer.  His mind was still sharp, and I will miss his family stories," said Linda Piekut, Executive Director of The Heritage Library.
