Welcome November! Autumn is always a busy season here and this month is no exception. As we look ahead, NAC is a cornucopia of artful opportunities and delicious events. Take a peek at all that's in store and help yourself to a full plate of creativity and fun!

The month kicks off with an insightful look at the role of graphic design in our culture. Then, be sure to stop by our Holzwasser Gallery to see the dynamic work of sculptor Taylor Apostol. We have workshops in a variety of media and fun Veteran's Day programs for our young artists. Plus, register today for winter and give thanks for 10% off the classes you love!

DISCUSSION: NOVEMBER 1, 6:30-8PM

Professor Pat Berman (Wellesley College, Department of Art History) takes an artistic, political, and social voyage through the Land-O-Lakes butter packaging, an icon of 20th century graphic design. Dan Elias (NAC Executive Director) will discuss these themes with Berman and Rachel Allen (Nez Perce)(Native American Curatorial Fellow, Peabody Essex Museum). Explore the power dynamics evident below the surface of this familiar design through lively discussion.

ARTIST TALK/DEMO: WEDNESDAY, NOVEMBER 14, 7PM

Taylor Apostol's sculpting process is informed by personal memories -- of her own body, the bodies of others, bits of conversation and advice, architecture and nature. "Through my sculptures," she writes, "I give physical form to what cannot be seen." As part of an ongoing series titled Shrinking Mass/Spreading Mass, Apostol uses patinated marble and plaster as a link to the past and the long history of traditional sculpting.

Join us for a reception Thursday, November 8 and a demonstration with the artist on Wednesday, November 14. This exhibition is free and open to the public.
