PA Resources Council Takes Over State Recycling Hotline
Over the summer, PRC assumed operation of the Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection's Recycling Hotline.

Call 1-800-346-4242 weekdays from 9 a.m. - 4:30 p.m. to learn about disposal options for electronics, tires, household chemicals, televisions and more. After-hour calls are returned the following business day.

“Zachary Bacon joined our Western Office staff in June to support the hotline. In his first few months he has demonstrated a true passion for educating the public and promoting environmental sustainability,” said PRC Regional Director Justin Stockdale. “Zac answers every call with enthusiasm and is proud to provide callers with real-time solutions to their recycling challenges." Zac (shown above at a recent hard-to-recycle collection) holds a bachelor's degree in Environmental Studies from the University of Pittsburgh and has worked with a variety of local nonprofits.

Stream Stewards Expands Program
PRC recently received a grant to continue its successful Stream Stewards program, which PRC piloted in 2014 with support from the Boeing Foundation. The program provides free hands-on science education to middle and high school students in Delaware County. Stream Stewards improves students' knowledge of how their daily actions impact the environment, encouraging them to adopt practices that protect the commonwealth's water quality.

Go “Green” as You Go Back to School
Reuse, repair and repurpose school supplies to save time, money and the earth's resources.

1. Tackle Piles of Paper
Paper accounts for 25% of waste in landfills, so make a point to combine leftover notebook paper into three-ring binders.

2. Reuse Whenever Possible
Mechanical pencils, binders, folders and numerous other school supplies can find new life in the new school year.

3. Get Creative
Use leftover crayons for a variety of craft projects — from suncatchers to holiday ornaments — or donate them to a number of charities.
