San Diego Open House
See you next week!

We're looking forward to a great Open House during San Diego County Fair. The same day will also feature a WFA Board Meeting, a meeting of the Professional Development Committee, and a chance for Industry Standards to get together to talk about ways to keep PREP in the forefront. There will be a Service Member Meeting in the Seabiscuit Skybox at 4 p.m. right before the Open House. Food & Beverage members, be sure to bring your latest and greatest for sampling at the Open House! During the gathering, we will enjoy the chance to celebrate San Diego County Fair CEO Tim Fennel and congratulate him once again on his induction into the WFA Hall of Fame.

Industry Standards will meet June 22 from 1 p.m. - 3 p.m in the Seabiscuit Skybox. The WFA Board along with Pro Dev will meet on June 23 at 1 p.m. in the Board Room, and the Open House is that evening from 5 p.m. - 7 p.m. in the Paddock Tavern.

Looking forward to seeing you in San Diego!

Elephant Guide Legislation
SB 1062 double referred in Assembly

Senator Lara's SB 1062, seeking to ban the elephant guide,  moved forward to the Assembly where it was double referred (presented before two committees). This bill is very similar to SB 716, last year's effort to ban the guide, which was vetoed by Governor Jerry Brown as being unnecessary. WFA maintains a strong interest in defeating this legislation as it has dangerous implications for all human-animal contact at fairgrounds, both in California and around the country. Last year, the most effective strategy was that of summoning expert testimony and demonstrating the current laws already in place for safe and appropriate use of the elephant guide.

June 14, the bill moved forward in the Assembly Committee on Water, Parks & Wildlife. There's still time to get opposition letters in before the next hearing of SB 1062, June 21, in front of the Assembly Arts, Entertainment, Sports, Tourism & Internet Media Committee.

Convention Hotel

It has come to our attention that members are already being reached out to by companies to book hotel rooms for Convention. These are a scam and are in no way affiliated with WFA. We will have hotel information available for RECONNECT Reno 2017, Jan. 15-18, soon!
