Children's Happenings

December 2018

Celebrate at the Library!

1,000 Books Before Kindergarten

Give your child the gift of reading this holiday season!

Parents can help even very young children learn important reading skills which research has determined children must know before they can learn to read by themselves.

Register for our FREE 1,000 Books before Kindergarten program and help your child gain the essential skills needed for school success.  Any child from birth to the day they enter Kindergarten is eligible.

Read books with your child and record your progress.  Come into the library each time you complete 100 books and earn a fun prize. When you finish 1,000 books, your child will be able to select a new picture book to add to our collection which will include a bookplate with your child's name and accomplishment on it.  They will also be invited to a special graduation party too!

How long does it take to reach 1,000 books?

1 book per day x 3 years= 1,095 books
10 books per week x 2 years - 1,040 books
3 books per day x 1 year = 1,095 books

Sign up for this program by visiting the Children's Department or online through our events calendar.
