Prison Congregation at Anamosa State Penitentiary
“It was kind of you to share my distress.” This is the title of one of the articles on Christian citizenship in the April issue of Gather magazine. This article is a timely reminder of the importance of ministry to those who are incarcerated, particularly as we in the Southeastern Iowa Synod are engaged together in establishing a prison congregation at Anamosa State Prison.

If your congregation is interested in growing in your understanding of the place and importance of prison ministry in our shared life of faith, the ELCA has also developed a 5-session study, Called to Hear: A Study Guide, drawn from the Criminal Justice Social Statement. Learn or share more, click the image to watch a video from Prison Congregations of America.

Health Assessment and Savings
Portico offers a 1% discount on health contributions to reward employers for encouraging those with ELCA-Primary health benefits to take the Mayo Clinic health assessment. The Southeastern Iowa Synod has not yet met this goal.

What does it mean to you? If the Southeastern Iowa Synod earns the health discount, you'll save 1% on your ELCA health contributions for the entire year. Collectively, the ELCA can save more than $1 million if all synods (and employers within a synod), seminaries, and churchwide ministries qualify for the discount. If you haven't yet taken the assessment, do it today, the opportunity to earn the discount ends April 30th. Take it now!
