![]() Sign the petition to support local action to address plastic pollution. Speak up using this petition to tell municipal officials that New Jersey is ready to take bold action to ban single-use plastics.
We owe it to the next generation to limit the ubiquity of single use plastics that on average are used for 12 minutes before being discarded where they can take up to 1000 years to break down - and even then they can continue to contaminate our environments.
At the current rate, by 2050 there will be more plastic than fish in our ocean, and inland water ways.
Yesterday a Bill that would prohibit single use carryout bags made of plastic film, polystyrene foam food service products, and single-use plastic straws, and assess a fee on paper carryout bags made it out of the Senate Budget & Appropriations Committee. On Monday Dec 9 it will be heard in the Assembly Environment & Solid Waste Committee.
If enough municipalities adopt ordinances, we can demonstrate to state legislators that towns are ready for strong action and give them the support they need to rally the votes and pass this Bill!
