101 Reasons to
Adopt a Golden!
reason #22
"We can swim along with you & even teach your kids & grand kids to swim!"

Don't forget that GRRAND has a convenient “Wish List” of items routinely needed at the kennel that directly help GRRAND dogs and those who care for them. You can find GRRAND’s wish list on Amazon. It’s simple and easy, and Amazon will send the items right to GRRAND so donors do not have to bring them in or send the supplies themselves. Put your Prime membership to good use and help make a difference for GRRAND dogs awaiting placement in a foster home.

Simply go to and select Lists, then Find a List or Registry. Search for GRRAND to view the wish list of much-needed items. When you are ready to checkout, just select GRRAND’s Gift Registry address to make sure the items are shipped to GRRAND.
Sweet Sadie needs a foster home ASAP!!! She is desperate to get out of the kennel!!!
Sadie is a young and active little girl needing a home that can devote the time and energy to her that she needs to be a good girl. She is an active little one, so she needs a family who can offer her plenty of activity to help release her still puppy energy. Because she needs so much exercise, she has started to go to Doggie Daycare and she has proven to get along famously with ALL the dogs she hangs out with, and she shares her toys well too.
She is super sweet and loves to play with other dogs and have fun!
It is a must that she have a fenced yard at her new home.
Sadie’s new family also needs to be willing to take her to basic obedience training and better yet, follow up with it and keep her memory fresh! She is eager to learn, and she is quite adorable as well, and will offer a devoted family plenty of love and companionship forever! (she will need a feline free home too)
Sadie has proven to be completely house trained! What a good pup!

Sadie really wants a foster or forever home so if you could open up your hearts and homes to this honey, please contact GRRAND right away!!!

Desperate for a Foster Home
This is one sweet and fun pair you will not want to miss out on! Indiana and Sasha came to GRRAND as their people got sick with cancer so we are trying to find them a great home to make up for their loss.
They are an extremely friendly and affectionate pair and one volunteer said they were hilarious! They may be 10, but they still are pretty active for their age, and if they can get some extra exercise in each day (an extra walk or 2 around the block) to lose a few pounds, they will be even more happy and active! They want to be where people are as they love Love! They have proven to dig to get out of a fenced yard if they are left outside for to long… They just really want to be with people.
We promise you will fall in love with these 2 as soon as you meet them. The are wanting to get out of the kennel ASAP, so if you think you can help them out, please contact GRRAND asap!

Bidding is underway and you have only 15 days left for an opportunity for your GRRAND dog to be a calendar star!  You know your GRRAND dog deserves it, right?

Willow will be our GRRAND cover dog, and she is looking for 12 more friends to make the 2018 calendar the best ever!  And did you know - 2018 Calendar dogs will be guests of honor at this year’s GRRAND Affair, and will accept cash donations in their GRRAND vests?

This is an incredible way to support GRRAND, and a fun way to show your love and appreciation for your GRRAND dog all year long!

  1. Opening bids start at $250, and will be accepted through May 31.
  2. All bids should be emailed to Shannon Baker at, and include “2018 Calendar Bid” in the subject line.
  3. Your email should specify your opening bid amount, and the specific month you would like to bid on.
  4. Shannon will confirm your bid, and alert you if you are outbid. You will then have an opportunity to increase your bid

All winning bids will be notified on June 1. Winning bidders are responsible for submitting one high quality photo of their GRRAND dog and an accompanying story to be featured for the winning month.  Pictures and stories will be due from the calendar winners by July 15.
Wilson is looking for his Forever Home!
Wilson gets along with everyone he meets!!! He is so excited to find his forever family! Watch this video (Click here)  and maybe he will be just the dog for you!
The TD3 dogs arrived safely in the United States on May 5, and are already enjoying their time in the Bluegrass State.
Colt and Kentucky were the first two Turkey Dogs to get pampered on Spa Day, their second official day in America!  And then the group of five dogs had their wellness checks at the vet’s office later in the week.  Some of the dogs are being treated for ear mites and other skin issues, but for the most part all are happy and healthy.  Ms. Lily is the oldest dog in the group, and her blood work indicated that she has low thyroid levels and is anemic.  She will be started on medication for her thyroid, and with her now eating a high-quality dog food, we anticipate that her anemia will improve.  Once the dogs complete their recommended treatment, they will begin going to foster-to-adopt homes.  Stay tuned to GRRAND’s Facebook page for more updates.
Rubin moved into his foster home almost three weeks ago and he is doing great.  We want to thank everyone, again, for helping us share his story and find a family that could take care of him while he heals from his surgery.  On behalf of Rubin, GRRAND is grateful for the donors who contributed to Rubin’s medical fund.  Because of you, nearly all of Rubin’s medical expenses associated with his orthopedic surgery to repair his right femur fracture and left pelvic fracture have been covered.  Thank you so much for supporting GRRAND and Rubin!  He still has several months of recovery, but he is safe now and loved.

GRRAND’s Annual Bark-B-Que is This Sunday!

Circle your calendar and bring your GRRAND dog to have some fun at our annual Bark-B-Que on Sunday, May 21, at Pawsitively Professional Boarding and Training Kennels, 5640 Preston Highway, Lebanon Junction, KY, 40150.

Visit anytime between 2:00 and 4:00 PM. Your GRRAND dog will love romping around and playing in the ponds with fellow Goldens.  This year, we are excited to welcome members of the Golden Retriever Club for a fun-filled day that is sure to have your dog wagging his tail for days!  We hope your family and your adopted GRRAND dog can join us.

Remember to bring towels for your GRRAND dog, water toys, and folding chairs to relax.
GRRAND will provide drinks, snacks, and desserts, and will have fresh water for the dogs. There is also a water hose so you can rinse your dogs at the end of the day.
The annual Bark-B-Que is for GRRAND dogs only please. You do not need to RSVP. We can’t wait to see you!

Drivers Needed!!

GRRAND is very grateful to Nina and Eric Scott for their generous donation of a John Deere riding mower! We now need some folks willing to help with mowing the lawn and the new kennel. If you live in Louisville and may be able to help with this job once every few weeks, we would be really grateful. Please email Jane Sonntag at

Think you're helping keep your Golden cool by shaving him for the summer? You're actually doing more harm than good!
The Golden's double-coat is designed to protect him from all the elements, so shaving him exposes his skin to the sun, giving him a higher risk of sunburn and actually making him hotter.

The GRRAND Affair committee is working hard on the 2017 event that will be held on November 3rd at the Frazier History Museum.  We are seeking donations from our golden supporters for our Live Auction.  Items that have historically done well include vacation home getaway, hosted dinners by local chefs, Derby/Oaks tickets, and fun experiences such as distillery private tours or Thunder Over Louisville parties.

If you would like to donate Live or Silent auction items, please contact Rachel Swope at

Also, if you would like to join our committee, we are seeking a silent auction director.  This position entails coordinating pick-up or drop-off of silent auction donations, developing displays, and ideally storing items at their home.  Seeking dedicated volunteer with home to offer preferably conveniently located to multiple parts of Louisville such as the St Matthews area.  If interested, please contact Rachel Swope at

Follow us @goldensrescue and share your photos using #GRRANDRescue. If you are a foster or adopter, we want to be tagged in your photos. Let's see those happy GRRAND dogs!
