Dear friends,
It's been another busy week of outdoor visits and many activities at the Jewish Home Family. We did receive extensive guidelines from the Department of Health this week that spell out the steps towards re-opening. The ultimate goal of re-opening is, of course, indoor visitation and we are developing all of the protocols we will need to begin moving through the various phases, as they have been defined.
This week at Jewish Home Assisted Living we began with Sunday's article of the week with Rabbi Korenblit, followed by the afternoon ballet viewing of "Cinderella." In the afternoon, Rabbi Korenblit led a discussion on "Origin and Meaning of Last Names" and we finished the day with a screening of the film "Emma." Monday began with current news, exercise with Maryellen and then two interesting travel programs, one on the Columbia Plateau and the other on the Colonization of North America. Tuesday included Supplies for Success, with some of our elders filling backpacks with school supplies for the Boys and Girls Club. We also toured Europe's Castles and Palaces, enjoyed a Happy Hour luau and yoga. Wednesday included fitness with Gina, an interesting interview with a MOMA curator on Henri Matisse vs Pablo Picasso and a travelogue visit to Slovenia. On Thursday we exercised with Patrick, and watched documentaries on the history of Israel, enjoyed Tai Chi and finished our day with an Ice Pop Social. The day wrapped up with a showing of "Dr. Zhivago." We wrapped up the week with Yiddish class, a visit to Norway and a lecture from Montclair State University Professor Ian Drake on "The United States and Troop Deployment around the World."
On Sunday the Jewish Home at Rockleigh elders enjoyed Hot Topics, Music Minstrel, You Be the Judge and an Afternoon of Music. On Monday our Kaplen 2 elders had a sing-a-long, Rubin elders had a lively discussion group and those on Seiden had fun with Comedy Central. Monday afternoon included Chair One Fitness, Jewish traditions with Rabbi Feld and Painting with a Twist, featuring a sea themed art project. Tuesday included Drum Circle on Seiden, Guess the Year program on Kaplen 2 and Cultural Dance and Music on Rubin. Tuesday afternoon featured Culinary Club on Kaplen 2 and Rubin, featuring strawberry and banana filled crepes. Wednesday was a special day as we enjoyed Concert on the Patio featuring entertainer Jack Vartan. In the afternoon we had a "Grand Ole Rockleigh" program on Kaplen 2, featuring music of the Grand Ole Opry, a bit hit with all. Thursday included Sensory Sensations on Seiden, You Be the Judge on Rubin. Later Rubin elders enjoyed Jewish Home University focusing on Famous Women in History. We finished our week with an Elvis Presley salute, including a screening of the film "Elvis: King Of Entertainment." We also had Men's Club, Bingo and Karaoke and on Kaplen 1 a delicious Happy Hour featuring cheese and fresh fruit.
