Museum of Art - DeLand Announces
 Donation from Wells Fargo Foundation
DeLand, FL - November 28, 2017 -  The Museum of Art – DeLand, Florida has received a grant from the Wells Fargo Foundation for its Arts on the Grow program. This contribution will be used to replenish the high-quality art supplies used in the existing Arts on the Grow Head Start program and for expansion into Edith I. Starke Elementary School.

In 2011, the Museum of Art – DeLand partnered with Mid Florida Community Services Head Start to create an arts integration program designed to connect students’ creative development to other areas, including perceptual, cognitive, language, and social skills.  Now in its 7th year, the program has grown to include six West Volusia Head Start centers serving 18 classrooms.  The 340 three- and four-year-olds served are 80% minority and 100% low income.  Bilingual program resources are available to both children and parents from whom English is a second language.

Arts on the Grow is adaptable to all grade levels and core subject areas, and this fall the Museum expanded its reach through a partnership with the Edith I. Starke Elementary afterschool program.  Lessons and activities, taught by practicing artists and art educators, align with core curricula to maximize the educational impact and student participation.  Starke Elementary, a Title I school located in one of the state’s lowest income communities,  is dedicated to closing the achievement gap for its students and addressing the needs of working families by operating until 6 p.m.
