Prayers for the Entertainment Industry
Dear HPN friends,

Happy July! We want to start the second half of the year with a heartfelt request from our HPN team. We ask that you pray for the Christians across the world, including ourselves, who are angry at the people in Hollywood or afraid that the people here are evil. We have received quite a few emails lately from HPN members who are angry that we are supporting and praying for people who aren't Christians, or who are living lives that may not look like a stereotypical believer. So, we ask you in this Call Sheet to pray for one another or even yourself, so that we can all be ambassadors of Jesus with love, grace, mercy, compassion, kindness, gentleness and all the fruits of the Spirit. One big reason why more people aren't Christians in Hollywood is because they are turned off by judging, angry, fearful Christians. They haven't experienced God's love through the Christians they know, and HPN wants to change that. We ask you to join us in praying that we can be examples of Jesus' unconditional love. In order to do that, we need your help.

Here is an example we received of how one Christian, through love and respect, had an eternal impact on a Hollywood professional:
"I'm very skeptical about condemning the creative work of others... even if it possibly intersects into what we stand against as believers. I remember the Baptist church boycott against Disney in the mid 90s. I was at Disney and the films I'd worked on were now part of the boycott. We were living in Europe at the time attending a Baptist church and I remember our pastor specifically wearing a Winnie the Pooh tie when he preached in support of Disney (and me). I appreciated that. Creative people, all of us, believers and unbelievers are recipients of God’s blessing. 'Every good and perfect gift is from above coming down from the Father of heavenly lights…' (James 1:17)"

Lastly, we want to share one of our favorite verses that motivates what we do at HPN: "Seek the peace and prosperity of the city (Hollywood) to which I have carried you into exile. Pray to the Lord for it, because if it prospers, you too will prosper." (Jeremiah 29:7)
Tony Hale's faith and career

Tony Hale is yet another entertainment professional who talks openly about his faith and how it impacts his life and career. We are so grateful for his candid words about success and achievement in a creative field, and pray that his faith and relationship with God will grow even stronger. Tony explains the illusion that fame is fulfilling: "Everybody wants to be known. Everybody wants to be seen. And people look at fame as the ultimate being known, the ultimate being seen. In actuality, if you're known by people who you love and love you, that's all the known you need."
Ann Sarnoff, new Warner Bros. CEO

Recently we asked you to pray for the Warner Bros. CEO search, and now we can pray for the new CEO, Ann Sarnoff. She is the first woman to be chosen for the position, as well as the first from outside the company. Pray for Ann as she prepares to officially take on this influential job, integrating and adjusting to the Warner Bros. employee culture as she does. Pray for her wisdom in decision-making, and for her to form good and healthy relationships with the Warner Bros. staff and all those she interacts with in this new role.
Industry professionals experiencing anxiety

Pray for the young people in our industry who are struggling with panic attacks and severe anxiety. The number of people on medication for anxiety is tremendously high and we want the Lord to bring peace to the young professionals in our industry. The following article details the uncertainty, instability, and constant underlying stress that entertainment professionals experience at all career levels. It also addresses the coping mechanisms some have explored, demonstrating that many people here are seeking spiritual healing but don’t know how to find it. Pray for Jesus to be their refuge and for them to know that even in the midst of anxiety, ultimate comfort and care is found in Him.
Pray for stunt performers

Pray for stunt performers, coordinators, and drivers and the danger that they face every day on the job. At HPN we have recently connected with dozens of Christian stunt performers, and we want to ask all of you to pray for them and their safety. This article details the risks and injuries that stunt performers face, including the story of HPN friend Laurie Harper. As you read, pray for those who make decisions around stunt safety and performance to have wisdom and discernment, and to value the well-being of those who take risks as part of creating high-quality entertainment.
Thanks so much for praying with us this week. As always, please feel free to respond – we love to hear your thoughts! To our U.S. friends, have a wonderful and safe 4th of July.

With love,
Karen, Erin, Virginia, and Kim

HPN's newest YouVersion devotional on FATHERS is now available. This is the first time we have used so many verses in the devotional and it’s because there are so many verses in the Bible about fathers! This is a crucial issue in our world and God knows it. Spend this week understanding our Heavenly Father's view of our earthly fathers, and in the process become better mothers and fathers.
