Remember in Prayer
This week we pray for the thousands of young people participating in the ELCA Youth Gathering, for God’s Spirit to stir their faith and help them discover their call to serve locally and globally.

Pray for volunteers, staff, and kids at St. Paul Lutheran in Martensdale and First Augustana at Lockridge as both are holding VBS events this week.

RISE UP TOGETHER
Southeastern Iowa Synod Attends ELCA Youth Gathering

Over 700 youth and adults from The Southeastern Iowa Synod will join 30,000 others for the 2015 ELCA Youth Gathering in Detroit July 15-19. The ELCA Youth Gathering exists to accompany young people in their faith journey to claim their baptismal identity and articulate their faith in Jesus Christ. Through interactive learning, service, bible study, and mass gatherings at Ford Field, the Gathering helps young people understand that to know Jesus through his death is to know Jesus as the fullness of God’s love, and that they are called, through their baptism, to follow Jesus’ way of the cross.

You can live stream events from Detroit. Click here to read the Program Director for Youth Ministry Paul Amlin's blog on reasons to live-stream and some ideas for doing so. Find the live-stream links here during the gathering.

Want to follow along on social media and connect? Use the #RiseUpELCA and #RiseUpSEIA to stay in touch with others.

Keep our young people in prayer as they experience the good news of Jesus Christ in and through the Gathering.

ELCA receives federal charter to open credit union
The Evangelical Lutheran Church in America (ELCA) was granted a federal charter July 7 to create the ELCA Federal Credit Union. The new credit union will provide products and services to the denomination's 3.8 million members in nearly 10,000 congregations and employees of the ELCA's 65 synods and churchwide organization. The credit union joins the three existing financial services ministries of the ELCA.

The charter was granted to the ELCA through the Office of Consumer Protection of the National Credit Union Administration (NCUA) – an independent federal agency created by Congress to regulate, charter and supervise federal credit unions. See more...

ELCA Advocacy news: Smarter Sentencing Act
ELCA Advocacy took action earlier this month to support The Smarter Sentencing Act, now in the U.S. Senate Judiciary Committee, as part of our ongoing effort to address mass incarceration and racial justice in our communities. The bipartisan Smarter Sentencing Act makes modest reforms to our justice system by alleviating overcrowding in our prisons, restoring the ability of federal judges to determine fairer and more realistic sentences, and creating more transparency about how federal laws and regulations are applied.  Learn more
