A brand new event this year, NFTY GER Kickoff will be taking place at Temple Beth Miriam in Elberon! With a focus on "kicking off" the year, teens from throughout the New York and New Jersey area will come together for a day of learning, fun, friends, singing, and leadership training. This event is perfect for those interested in seeing what NFTY GER is all about as well as those who hold board positions in their Temple Youth Groups. This event is taking place on September 17 from 10:00-3:00 and is open to ALL jewish teens in grades 9-12. We're excited to see you at Kickoff!
In addition, we have an exciting year planned for SALTY. Our first event is Apple Picking taking place on Sunday September 25 after Hebrew School.. We’ll meet at the orchard, pick apples then return to TBM to turn them into something delicious. Details will be following as we get closer to the date, but in the meantime, SAVE THE DATE and join in!!
We are reinvigorating our Youth Programming this year. Participation in a Youth Group extends the work we do in Religious School by providing our kids opportunities to connect and "do Jewish" outside the classroom. In addition, we make every effort to combine our events with kids of the same age from other congregations, so that Jewish connections are made geographically as well. Who knows....your child's new best friend might be a member somewhere else and this may be the only way their paths might cross...why not give it a try?
TBM has three active groups geared to three age ranges. SALTY is for high school teens, grades 9-12. Activities for SALTY members takes place about once a month, including sponsoring the Purim Carnival. SALTY is a a subregional youth group and we feed into the regional Reform youth organization known as NFTY GER (Garden Empire Region), which in turn is a part of the national Reform youth group known as NFTY, National Federation of Temple Youth. Being a part of SALTY makes teens a part of all Reform Youth organizations and completely widens their circle of Jewish connections nationwide and even world wide.
Membership to TBM is not required to join SALTY, but IS required to apply for any scholarships- this applies to all our TYGs.
SALTeens is designed for kids in grades 6,7& 8- they also have events about once a month and there is a special NFTY event for them to introduce them to the power of NFTY. It’s not on the SALTeens calendar, but open to 6th & 7th graders is a NFTY Retreat just for them on March 31-April 2 at Camp Kutz in Warwick NY- save the date and more info will follow.
