Lee Company, Inc. was founded in 1932 by Lon Lee as Lee School Supply in Terre Haute, Indiana. In the early days, when schools had very little money pencils, paper, chalk and erasers were a mainstay of the company. In addition to consumable school supplies, Lee School Supply also sold furniture, sporting goods and paper products and in the 1950s even offered textbooks.
After incorporating in the 1970s, Lee Company discontinued the sale of school supplies and focused more on school furniture and equipment. Dan Senseman joined the company in 1963, and in 1972 Dan became president. In 1974, Lee Company became Stevens Industries’ second dealer.
Dan took over ownership of the company in 1982. Throughout the years, the Senseman kids have all worked for the company at one time or another. Bob Senseman, Vice President, started working part-time in high school and after college started working full-time. Like Bob, Ken Senseman worked for the company in high school and college, but after college he went to work at General Motors. After retiring from GM, Ken Senseman joined the company full-time as Vice President. In 2010, Dan retired and Ken Senseman became President.
Ken Senseman “We have a long history with Stevens Industries through Chuck Stevens, Tom Wegman and Todd Wegman and have treasured our relationship for all of these years.”
The Senseman family were fans of Stevens work even before becoming dealers. Ken Senseman shared, “In 1972 my father purchased kitchen cabinets from Chuck Stevens for my mom’s kitchen remodel.” At the age of 14 Ken did his first Stevens cabinet installation. The cabinets are still in use today.
Todd Wegman stated, "Lee Company has been an integral part of our past and is a key partner for the future. Connections between our companies continue to grow stronger and we look forward to a bright future in Indiana with Lee Company."
