Prayers of Gratitude and Concern, Spoken or Silent

During the Sundays between Easter and Pentecost, we celebrate the Resurrection and the joy of knowing Christ lives and lives in us. These Sundays, and every day in between, are good days to reclaim the practices of prayer in our lives, too. Through prayer, we are invited to know and be known by God, and to find peace with God in the midst of circumstance. Prayer can be dangerous, too, for, as Emilie Griffin writes, “In prayer we open ourselves to the chance that God will do something with us that we had not intended.” Her observation connects to what Jesus taught us as we pray for God’s will to be perfected “on earth as it is in heaven.”

During the recent prayer retreat, the group marked the beginning and ending of days using the services of Morning and Evening Prayers, as practiced by the Iona Community, an ecumenical Christian communion based in Scotland, as our guide. The prayer prompts below were used in both services, and we found them particularly meaningful. I offer them to you with the encouragement to invite God to show up in your life through prayer, in some renewing and unexpected way, as you pray for others and the work of the Holy Spirit in your life, too.

Prayers of gratitude and concern, spoken or silent

  • We bring to God someone whom we have met or remembered today and for whom we want to pray…
  • We bring to God someone who is hurting today and needs our prayer…
  • We bring to God a troubled situation in our world today…
  • We bring to God, silently, someone whom we find hard to forgive or trust…
  • We bring ourselves to God that we might grow in generosity of spirit, clarity of mind, and warmth of affection…

Praying with you in mind and heart,

Bob

Being a part of a community means that we share in one another's joys and pray for one another in times of need.

Baptism

In worship on Sunday, April 15, 2018, the ordinance of Christian baptism will be observed as we celebrate the baptism of Brenna Bollen. Join us in praying for Brenna as she prepares for this special day, and as she seeks to grow in Christ as a child of God.

Children's Prayer Retreat

Please be in prayer for our children this weekend as they travel to Eastover Retreat Center to join with other children from local CBF churches.  Together they will learn, fellowship, and explore the topic of "Belonging" and what that means for them.

If there is a specific way we can pray for you or someone is missing from this list (with their permission), please let us know.  You can do so by writing prayers@freemasonstreet.org or calling the Church Office.
Please let us know whether your prayer request is private (for the ministerial staff and prayer team), for the Deacons, or for the congregation.

Calling ALL Parking Lot "Attendants!"

Weekends this month are filled with events that will be well attended and could benefit FSBC Missions.  We are looking for THREE workers April 13, 14, 20, and 21. The Virginia International Tattoo Festival is coming to the Scope April 26-29!  This 4-day event always fills our parking lot!

The Parking Lot made $627.00 in just two nights last month, and after April, local events will dwindle, so now is the time to volunteer.
