"Fasting" from: Energy | Some strategies: turn off lights and appliances when you do not need them,
Since we are in the last week of our carbon fast, I want to zoom out a bit with this week's daily emails. As we try to save energy at home this week, it's hard not to wonder about how our individual consumption and demand connects with the bigger picture of energy consumption, production, and innovation.
Today, check out this fascinating video
by The Economist about a German town that has become energy independent on 100% local, renewable energy, and two European fossil fuel giants already responding the renewable revolution by making bold stakes in renewable energy.
While this video has an economic focus, the creative collaboration of this energy-independent town reminds me of the "Body of Christ" analogy in 1 Corinthians, and the priority shifts of these titan companies reminds me of Jesus' assurance: "Truly I tell you, if you have faith as small as a mustard seed, you can say to this mountain, 'Move from here to there,' and it will move.
When we use less energy and seek renewable energy -- and speak up about it -- we add our vote to the tipping scales, and help compel innovators and companies to drive the large-scale changes we need to significantly reduce global carbon emissions. Action and faith, together, can go a long way.
