Dr. Matossian Using Symfony IOLs

Cynthia Matossian, MD, FACS was one of the first surgeons in the region to use Symfony® and Symfony® Toric lenses during cataract surgery.  Nationally-recognized cataract surgeon Dr. Matossian said, "I am very excited to have the availability of this implant to correct distance, intermediate, and provide functional near vision with less glare and halo side effects."

Matossian Eye Associates is proud to offer the Symfony® and Symfony® Toric advanced technology lenses for cataract surgery.  These Abbott Medical Optics (AMO)-manufactured intraocular lens implants (IOLs) were recently FDA-approved.  Unlike a multifocal, the Symfony® and Symfony® Toric lenses offer extended range of vision including distance, intermediate, and adequate near, mimicking the natural lens more closely.  Colors are vivid due to chromatic aberration correction technology in these IOLs.

Five Frightening Risks of Wearing Cosmetic Contact Lenses Without a Prescription

Contact lenses may elevate a Halloween costume’s fright factor, but wearing them without a prescription could result in something far more terrifying – blindness. We would like to urge Halloween shoppers to be aware of over-the-counter contact lenses.

Here are five frightening possible consequences:

  1. Scratches to the eye – If contacts are not professionally fitted to your eye, they can scratch the cornea, the clear front window of the eye.
  2. Infection – Research shows wearing non-prescription contacts increases the risk of an infection called keratitis by 16 times.
  3. Pink eye – Never share contacts because doing so can spread germs, causing conditions such as pink eye.
  4. Decreased vision – Whether from a corneal scratch or infection, wearing non-prescription contacts can lead to decreased vision.
  5. Blindness – It’s no scare tactic: wearing non-prescription contacts can lead to permanent vision loss.

Local Artist Program

Matossian Eye Associates' Local Artist Program exhibited two artists from July through October of 2016.  Norma Jean Devico’s abstract artwork decorated the walls in our Hopewell, NJ office while Tom Gass’ photographs were presented in our Doylestown, PA office.  Local artists sign up to display their artwork in our reception areas for a three month period.  This offers visual interest for our patients and exposure for local artists.

"Purple Iris" - Tom Gass

"Calculations" - N.J. Devico

As part of our Local Artist Program, a People’s Choice Award selection takes place to engage our patients with the artwork.  Ballots are placed in the reception areas and patients are asked to vote for their favorite painting.  After counting the votes, our patients declared “Calculations” to be the favorite of NJ Devico’s artwork and “Purple Iris” the winning choice of Tom Gass’ pieces.   Choosing was not easy for our patients, as the talent demonstrated in each of the pieces of artwork displayed was wonderfully unique!

Our newest exhibits will extend through the end of December.  Richard Gunoskey is featured in our Hopewell, NJ office and Smita Rao is featured in our Doylestown, PA office. Please stop by to enjoy these exhibitions!
