Boneh Olam Fiesta 2018

Dear friends,

As we prepare to celebrate a Rosh Hashonah with our Jewish Home Family, we’ve had discussion and reminiscence sessions in all of our settings. We look forward to attending High Holiday services together and to the opportunity to wish one another a very happy and healthy new year.

Boneh Olam 2018

Even with the holidays approaching, we have had a very busy week. One of the highlights was having one of our Rock Steady Boxing coaches attend the first national Rock Steady conference. Not only that, but Coach Tom Elliott also presented a session entitled “Adding Tools to Your RSB Toolbox” which focused on broadening coach’s knowledge and interaction with clients. Keynote speaker was Rasheda Ali, daughter of Muhammad Ali and a boxer in her own right.

Other highlights at the Jewish Home at Rockleigh included Sunday’s wonderful, performance by the Valley Music Group. On Labor Day we had many different activities and a rousing “open microphone”concert in the afternoon. Wednesday’s evening concert concluded the summer’s Lenore Messer concert series. It was a great way too conclude the very popular series, with Ed Goldberg and the Odessa Klezmer filling the halls with lively music.

Although the Gallen Day Center was closed on Labor Day, we carried the theme into Tuesday with a creative program called “Hat Chat.” Different hats, representing different occupations, were gathered by staff. They were used to spark a lively discussion on different occupations and a lot of sharing by the participants about their past careers. We also had a Women’s group this week as well as a jewelry making session. We took our first-ever outing of some participants who enjoyed lunch at the Stateline Diner. On Wednesday we celebrated “pizza day” and both made and enjoyed mini pizzas.

Jewish Home Assisted Living residents contend their “clipping for a cause”project for a third month. Their August total was a record $7405! Other highlights included challah baking, cerebral gymnastics and a session of our monthly debate club.

We wish you and your family a new year of blessings and joy.

All the best,
