In last week's e-letter we announced that the theme for this September's Rally Day is abundance. We also began a series of weekly at-home family activities to prepare us all for Rally Day on Sunday, September 18. If you didn't catch our e-letter last week, join in!

Are you ready for week two's "Abundance Activity?" It's a little more involved, but also has more impact:

Count all the extra school supplies you have lying around your home, and consider donating them to children in need of school supplies through our School Supply Drive. Our collection box is next to the table at the back of the sanctuary, and we're accepting donations until August 20.

Here are some optional follow-up questions to talk about as a family: How can our extra things help other people? Are their lives still abundant, too, and if so, how?

Rally Day is Sunday, September 18. From 10-11am we're going to have a BIG celebration featuring a plethora of games, activities, and opportunities for children, youth, and adults that center on the theme of abundance. We invite you and your family to join us in worship at 9am or 11am and at the party in between to kick-off a new school year of community and ministry here at Advent.

Why's it called "Rally Day"?

The word "rally" means "to draw or call together for a common purpose" or "a renewal of energy in joint action." That's why many Lutheran congregations use the term Rally Day to describe a special Sunday when the congregation reunites after everyone's summer breaks to reengage in community and ministry. And now we are calling you! Join us for this special celebration to kick-off a new school year of Children, Youth and Family ministry here at Advent.
Want to help with Rally Day or Sunday School this year?

We are currently looking for this year's Sunday School teachers, and who better to call on first than our awesome Sunday School parents? Would you consider supporting our Sunday School program this year by teaching a small learning group? Here are some of the details:
  • Your lesson plan and materials are provided for you each week. You get the lesson plan by email a few days ahead of time to review. A printed lesson plan and any materials you need will be waiting for you Sunday morning.
  • You can opt to teach one of four age groups: babies and toddlers, lower elementary, upper elementary, or teens.
  • You are paired with a teaching partner for your group. The two of you should lead together as much as possible, but also have the flexibility of having your partner cover the Sundays you can't make it.
  • There will be a training session for you during the regular Sunday School hour, 10-11am, on September 11 (the Sunday before Rally Day) to make sure you feel prepared to lead your group.

We also welcome any volunteers who'd like to help us plan and set up the festivities and activities for Rally Day on September 18.
