Happy New Year and a very special THANK YOU to our community.
During your most recent visits, staff have reminded you to wear your mask properly and maintain social distancing. We greatly appreciate your willingness to embrace these safety requirements with care and compassion for our staff who have been tasked with ensuring compliance.
Last week a community member responded to the reminder with appreciation, saying that she wished more places would do the same, that it made her feel more secure visiting the library. Your gratitude means so much to us, as we continue to wrestle with the safest way to ensure continuity of services during a pandemic.
A recent note of appreciation was received from a special family:
“Dear EG Librarians & Staff, you spent your year innovating so we could have a good one. You made us book bundles. You made us craft kits. You challenged us to read over the summer; you created videos and staffed the cold drive-thru. You made this year immeasurably better through your creativity, your kindness, your dedication. Thank you.”
It has been such a pleasure to receive notes of gratitude while we are offering limited services. They truly brighten our day! We thank each of you for your patience, understanding, and appreciation while we continue to navigate these unique and challenging times! We wish you happiness and health as we embrace 2021, and hope your days are filled with dreams and imagination, made possible through books.
In response to the continuing surge in COVID-19 cases, the library will rollback services and capacity limits will be reduced.
Service Updates (as of 1/5/21)
- Visits are limited to 15 minutes.
- 5 Patrons will be allowed in the building at a time.
- No desktop computers will be available (parking lot wi-fi, laptop & hotspot lending, limited copy/fax/scanning still available).
- Limited staff will be assigned to public service desks (reference services will be provided virtually).
- We encourage the community to prioritize the use of Book Bundles for Kids & Teens and Personalized Reading Recommendations for Adults. Our librarians will work with your interests to curate personalized lists of books which can be picked up at our drive-thru window.
The 2021 Winter Reading Challenge begins January 5th for all ages! This year's theme is Fun & Games − Just Roll With It! Read the details.

Museum Pass Program
Experience 25 nearby museums for free or at a discount through our Museum Pass Program! Read our brochure for policy guidelines and complete list of passes. We advise contacting the museum before visiting to get the current hours and admission policies.

Virtual Shape Storytime!
Tuesday, January 5th | 10 am
Join us for a Virtual Zoom Storytime with songs, stories, rhymes and of course, Mouse House! This week features stories and songs about shapes! Pick up your January Storytime Activity Pack in the Children's room. The pack includes simple crafts and early literacy activities to supplement each weekly storytime theme.

Take & Make Craft
This week's craft is Fun Foam Animal Stick puppets! Pick up one of these animal stick puppets at the drive-thru or in the Children's Room. The kit will include supplies for one of the four possible designs.

Grab & Go Crafts for Grownups
Fresh Start Artsy Journal
Kits include a blank notebook, decorative tape, adhesive picture corners, 3 felt-tip pens and directions to create a "bullet" journal & other types of creative journal. Registration begins January 8th. The first week is limited to East Greenbush and Schodack cardholders. One kit per household.

Pen to Pandemic Short Story Contest

Do you have a story to tell? In support of our home-grown talent, we invite submissions of unpublished, original short stories. This will be a work of fiction set in Rensselaer County during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Virtual Trivia is back by popular demand — just in time for Winter Reading Club! The theme is music. We will be having a real prize for the winning team!
Virtual Adult Bingo

Celebrate great reads of 2020 with Virtual Bingo for Adults. Pick up your Bingo card at our drive-thru window beginning on January 20th. In the spirit of fun, we will hold a raffle for one event winner. Registration opens 1/9 at 11 am. Limited to East Greenbush and Schodack patrons until January 15th. One card per person.
