City of McKinney Events

Arts in Bloom (Friday-Sunday)
The streets of downtown McKinney come alive with fascinating sights and sounds as fine artists, dancers, performance artists, musicians, Texas wineries, and food vendors take part in the three-day celebration. Also enjoy a hands-on interactive area for children, the Kids Creation Station. Free admission. Full details in the online festival guide. Friday, 5-10 p.m.; Saturday, 11 a.m.-10 p.m.; Sunday, noon to 5 p.m.

Second Saturday (Saturday): In honor of Arts in Bloom, this month's event focuses on Arts in Bloom!

Juried Art Show and Exhibition (Thru April 18)
This annual art competition was created to build a public and permanent art collection for the McKinney Performing Arts Center. Artists from all over the state submit work for cash prizes and the chance to have their piece hung at MPAC. Open to the public; free. 111 N. Tennessee.

Neighborhood Night at the Movies (Friday)
Despicable Me 3 (PG) showing outdoors at Tom Allen Jr. Park, 3301 Bahnman Dr. Starts about 8:15 p.m. Free. Bring lawn chairs and blankets.

Second Saturday Bird Walk (Saturday)
Walks begin promptly at 8 a.m. and last 1.5 hours. Walks are included in regular admission. These bird walks are intended to help beginning and intermediate birders with bird spotting and identification techniques. 

Nature Storytime (Friday)
This weekly storytime focuses on nature-related stories to engage children in learning and the appreciation and care of nature. 10:30-11 a.m. Included in museum admission.

Spring Plant Sale (Saturday-Sunday)
Shop from a huge selection of native plants and herbs. All sales at this event are tax-free and support the mission of Heard which brings nature and people together. Saturday, 9 a.m.-5 p.m., Sunday, 1-5 p.m. No admission. For a list of available plants, check the Heard website.

Zip Line Day (Saturday)
Guests climb a 23-ft. tree to our zip platform and proceed to a 487 ft. zip line. Purchase one ticket ($12 each) for each trip down the zip line. (This event always sells out, so get tickets online as soon as possible.)

Rock Yo Art Out (Saturday)
Local artists, musicians and food vendors will gather at TUPPS for a first ever ROCK YO ART OUT event! Live music on both stages (indoor stage and outdoor stage if weather permits). There will be LIVE art demonstrations, art to purchase and art to admire. Also have a chance to contribute to a community mural that will be hung inside the brewery after ROCK YO ART OUT! (No cover charge for this family-friendly event.) 2-10 p.m.

Local Art Show (Sunday)
The McKinney Creative Community is a network of local artists who share a desire to keep McKinney creative. Please come out to shop, taste and show your support. 1-5 p.m.

*These events aren't in McKinney, but Luscombe Farms in Anna has been a long-time vendor at the McKinney Farmers Market and regularly partners with downtown chefs, so we wanted to include a couple neat events taking place on the farm.

Spring Market (April 14)
Bring the family out to the country just north of McKinney for pictures with a live bunny, BBQ lunch, shopping with some very talented artist and artisans, face painting and cookie decorating. BONUS....Martha's irises will be in bloom so tour the gardens for free. Follow the signs to the historical barn once arriving at Luscombe Farm. 9 a.m.- 4 p.m.

Springtime on the Hill (Thru April 25)
Martha McDowell (aka Aunt Martha) opens her award-winning Iris
Gardens to the public. We offer lunch by reservation Mon.-Fri. during the event which can be boxed or platted for your convenience. We welcome garden clubs, church organizations, book clubs, etc. to come enjoy the blooms! The gardens are open through April 25 from 10 a.m.-6 p.m. and Sundays 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.

World War I Exhibit: This exhibit continues into 2018, honoring Colling County men who served 100 years ago. IPads provide interactive experience. Collin County History Museum, 300 E. Virginia. 10 a.m.-4 p.m. Free admission.

Franconia Brewing Tour: 11 a.m.-1 p.m. Just $5 for samples of all beers on tap as well as a tour of this "green" facility. 495 McKinney Pkwy.
