All the Latest from Advent

Don't panic. We are not banning coffee at church. But someone almost did.

16th-century priests wanted Pope Clement VIII to ban what they called "the devil's drink." Sadly, this view was likely colored with xenophobia. The energy-inducing bean brew came from the Middle East and was first used by Muslims. Fast forward to 2018: Having coffee after church is one of the few things all Christian churches actually agree on.

At Advent, we want to create more opportunities for us to get to know each other and deepen our sense of community. Reimagining our Coffee Hour downstairs after worship seems like a great place to start.

Join us for a new and reimagined Coffee Hour this Sunday after 9am and 11am worship. Stay 5 minutes, 15 minutes, or as long as you'd like, and get to know someone new at Advent.

A Hill of Beans: Help us collect 500 cans of beans by October 31!

Why: All canned bean donations will be distributed at our Food Pantry. If we collect 500 cans by Oct 31, we’ll also get a $500 matching gift to our food ministries.

Our Progress: You all have donated 196 cans of beans so far! We are well on our way!

How: You can bring canned bean donations up to the altar (yes, like an offering), or place a delivery order at your grocery store and put Advent as the address.*

*We can accept deliveries from 10am-4pm Monday thru Friday. Our address is 2504 Broadway, New York, NY, 10025. Make sure to only donate canned beans, please.
