Course description:

The most forward-thinking sleep disorders programs are moving beyond a diagnostic and toward an "interventional" approach for the longitudinal care of sleep patients. This is partly a result of changes in healthcare reimbursement model away from treatment in favor of outcomes measures, and partly because of an increase in more acute populations in the clinical care pathway of these programs that currently are not receiving the care that is needed due to gaps in the clinical pathway.

As a result, a sleep center model is needed which closes the gaps in the care of acute populations and promotes good clinical outcomes. This talk presents the step-by-step development of such a model in the setting of a hospital health system, and provides process, coding, and anticipated financial models for the attendee to adapt for the benefit of one's own sleep program.

This program has been approved for a maximum of 1.00 contact hours Continuing Sleep Technology Education (CSTE) credit by the Board of Registered Polysomnographic Technologists, 8400 Westpark Drive, 2nd Floor, McLean VA 22102. Program # 219P01265 Approval # 2171110

  • The learner will be able to define current changes in the affordable care environment which impact the care of sleep patients.
  • Identify workflows for transforming the care model towards a more effective and viable sleep program.
  • Describe a new model which transitions from a testing to an outcomes or "interventional" approach in the clinical care of patients.
