Friends - My belief in Boston Cares has always been about building bridges between community causes that need help and people eager to make a difference. Because of you – Boston Cares’ magnificent volunteers, partners, staff and friends – that’s exactly what we do; and I couldn’t be more grateful for what we accomplish every year.

I am asking you to join me in supporting the continuing work of Boston Cares by donating to our annual appeal.

-Patrice Keegan, Executive Director

Judge a Citywide Debate Tournament for High School Students

Saturday, January 12

7:30 AM - 12:30 PM

and 12:30 PM - 5:00 PM

Volunteer judges listen to students, providing vital reinforcement for the notion that students have valuable ideas to contribute to society. After the debate, judges offer encouragement, share advice for the next round, and tell the tournament organizers who won.

With a student to judge ratio of only 4:1, this is a great opportunity to get some hands-on experience working directly with some amazing students.

No debate experience is necessary to be an effective judge.

Monday, January 21st | 10:00 AM - 1:00 PM

Boston Cares needs your help to support local immigrants and refugees through the creation of ESOL (English for Speakers of Other Languages) learning tools for community organizations and schools throughout the city of Boston. Volunteers will create English journals, conversation games, and vocabulary and citizenship flashcards for organizations for immigrant and refugee families learning English and preparing for the citizenship exam. New this year, volunteers will also create magnetic lapdesks and phonetics kits for beginners who may not be literate in their native languages. Help us create these critical items by donating materials from our Amazon Wishlist!

If you and/or your children Age 5+ are interested in volunteering on MLK Day, you can sign up here.
