Next Market: Saturday, July 7

On Saturday, July 14, we'll hold our 9th annual Zucchini 500!

So why are we telling you this week? Because this week, you can sign up and receive the wheel kits that your kids will need to create the best possible zucchini racers. Wheel kits are $2 each or free with a non-perishable food donation.

You can also sign up next week on race day and use our craft table to decorate your racer. But having the wheels in advance allows you to create and test your racer for speed, and to decorate your racer to the limits of your creativity. Most of our past winners have used this week wisely, and wowed us with their technical and design skills.

Interested in volunteering for the market? Contact Vince at 484-636-3910 or email

Environmental Advisory Council: Tip of the Week

Why Use a Rain Barrel?

There are several environmental benefits associated with rain barrels. Foremost, rain barrels reduce stormwater runoff. This is water that does not soak into the ground and can transport many pollutants to our local waterways. The rainwater harvested in the barrel can be used for watering lawns, gardens, potted plants, and for washing off patio furniture and tools. From a gardening perspective, the natural nutrients in rainwater make it far better than tap water, which has chlorine and fluoride in it. With a rain barrel, gardeners can minimize or eliminate their use of chemical fertilizers. Want to learn more? Compare the different types available.
