El Salvador Sending
Soon, members of our Advent community will be traveling more than 3,000 miles to travel, worship, and celebrate El Salvador. Some will be going to a new place, while others look forward to reuniting with old friends. It's an exciting and big step into a different world. This Sunday join us in praying and empowering them as they prepare to embark to El Salvador, and accompany El Salvadorans in life and ministry.

Norma, one member who is going, will be giving the Mission Moment in worship, and talking about advocacy issues related to El Salvador at Adult Conversation from 10:10-11am in the basement fellowship hall.

They travel July 18-25, and you can share in their experience through their daily blog reflections, which will be shared through our e-letter and Facebook page. Be sure to check in as they tour El Salvador and visit our sister church in Calderitas.

Support them this Sunday by blessing them on their journey and wishing them safe travels!
Las Tres Hermanas: Art and Activism
Take a trip with us next Sunday, July 9 after the 11am service to Las Tres Hermanas: Art and Activism. In this exhibition, our very own Elba Cabrera and her two sisters, Evelina and Lillian are praised for their efforts in politics and the arts. We will take the 2 train up to Freeman Street and walk to the Bronx Music Heritage Center. The address is 1303 Louis Nine Boulevard, Bronx, NY 10459. Talk to Zachary if you are interested in going. You can reach him at admin@adventnyc.org.
Summer Suppers Registration
Come eat and worship with us. On Wednesdays from July 12 to August 16, we will be joining together for a different kind of service -- one centered on bringing Christ-loving members of Advent who worship in two different languages into one community. Everyone is welcome to eat supper, worship, and discuss the Bible. Join us for a change of pace from the usual three Sunday services.

One Advent member, Carmen, is excited to share food (dessert!) with everyone. As a bilingual member of Advent, Carmen believes that a bilingual program creating opportunities for English-speakers and Spanish-speakers to meet each other is lovely.

Come laugh with new friends, share stories, and grow in faith. Experience God in a new light through food and fellowship. Our inter-generational, bilingual program calls our diverse congregation to connect at the same table.

We invite you to register at this time! You can view the full schedule and register online on our website, or pick up a registration form on the back table in the sanctuary.

Annual Congregational Retreat this August
Come with us to Koinonia. Enjoy the weekend of August 4-6 in picturesque landscapes while spending time with people who love you as you are. There are boats, goats, campfires, s'mores, hikes, early morning coffee, late-night board games and even more. Sit by the lake reading your book or chatting with a new friend. Spend a night with Advent. Gain a spiritual experience beyond Advent's walls and the New York City buzz. Experience God in nature. We want you there because we know how much you will love it.

If you still aren't convinced, take it from our very own Pastor Danielle. She's excited to go on the retreat to get to know people in a chill and laid-back setting. She's also looking forward to spending more time with her family, after a busy few months moving and starting a new job. Koinonia is a place to get away and relax. "Plus", she says, "there are goats, and I love goats."

We'd love to have you with us. Learn more about travel, costs, housing, programming, and registration on our website.

How to Volunteer at Advent: A Training Session
On Sunday, July 23 we're hosting a Ministry Scheduler training session at 10:10am to 10:50am. This training session will teach you how to sign up for and manage your volunteer opportunities using Ministry Scheduler online.
Summer Choir
While the Advent Chorale takes a break for summer, there are still opportunities to sing in worship! Summer Choir provides a more laid-back opportunity to sing at 11am worship with just one rehearsal the same morning at 10:15am. Summer Choir will sing on July 9, July 30, and August 13. All are welcome to join!
Altar Guild Volunteers
Sign up for Altar Guild! We'd like to thank Lauri, Lynne, Michael and Lauren for setting up for worship on Sundays. Please help them out by signing up for a Sunday or two. Thank you for all you're doing! Talk to Zachary about joining. You can reach him at admin@adventnyc.org.
In-Church Picnic
Our in-church picnic returns next Sunday, July 16 after 11am worship in the basement fellowship hall. It will run 12:15 to 3pm and is open to everyone from all three services. Come enjoy hot dogs and hamburgers, fun and fellowship, games and prizes for all!

The picnic is being sponsored by the Adventurous Adventonians but we are looking for help in setting up and cleaning up! Talk to either one of the "two Kathys" to volunteer (Kathy Matson, katdotmat@gmail.com/Kathy Carpenter, kathc89@gmail.com).
Spanish Mass and Backyard Cookout (New Date)
On Sunday, July 30, you're invited to join our Spanish worship service as it migrates outside to bask in the summer sun. Instead of at Advent, it will be held in the backyard of a nearby congregant, and followed by a cookout. This special outdoor worship service will begin at the regular Spanish worship time, 12:45pm, nearby Advent at the home of Dolores. For the address email Pastor Gary at pastormills@adventnyc.org.
A Persuasive Opportunity for Jane Austen Fans
For all you book fans out there, we'd like to put this on your radar so you can start reading now. On Sunday, July 23, the Adventurous Adventonians are hosting a discussion of Jane Austen's Persuasion and viewing of the 1995 classic film of the same name. Participants are encouraged to bring a dish to share (Jane Austen-era foods especially desirable). If you have never read the book or haven't read it in a long time, now is the time to pick up a copy as the discussion will be more enjoyable for those familiar with the story.

Did you know that we provide two different offering envelope plans to help you manage your giving to Advent? A bi-monthly plan that provides weekly giving envelopes and all of the special holidays and missions of the month (for regular weekly givers), or a quarterly plan that provides just the special holidays and missions of the month (for electronic or annual givers). Would you like to receive envelopes from Advent or change your envelope plan? Contact our Financial Secretary, Linda Kelly at finance@adventnyc.org.
