Looking Back on 175 years of
Family Farming on Nantucket

On Thursday, June 28, our Head Grower, Pete Smith is retiring

after nearly thirty-two years here at the farm. We “recruited” Pete away from another grower and he became our first year-round employee who was not a Bartlett. We are extremely fortunate to have had Pete’s enthusiasm and love for “all things green” for the past 3 decades.  We will look back and remember his contribution with both awe and happiness as we shared ups and downs, storms and sunshine, wind and rain, and all that’s in-between. Over that time, he and Hilary certainly became part of our family.  We will miss them and wish them calm seas and following winds to their new home.  You may see him out and about for the next few months, enjoying the island until he and Hilary head off to their next adventure in the Olympic Peninsula.

Thank you Pete for all you have done to make our Greenhouse and Garden Center what it is today!

~John Bartlett~
