As you may know, the temple has a defibrillator which, thank God, we have never had to use. However, we are offering a free tutorial on how to use it should you ever find yourself in need of applying the life-saving electric shock to someone whose heart is in danger here at the temple. On September 26 at 7:30, right before the board meeting, Tim Knotts, one of our congregants and a certified EMT will demonstrate the AED. Everyone is welcome to learn how to use the machine. The demonstration will take about 20 minutes.

Can't Hear the Shofar at Temple? Let the Shofar Come to You! |
Are you - or do you know - a person who can't get to temple on Rosh Hashanna to hear the shofar being sounded? Rabbi Stanway would love to hear from you and make arrangements to visit you on the Second Day of Rosh Hashanna to hear the shofar sounded. Just drop him an email at rabbi@bethmiriam.org and he will take it from there.

Join the temple community as we prepare for the Days of Awe. Our first service is a service of preparation called Selichot which means 'Forgiveness'. Selichot will take place on September 24 at 8:15 pm and we will begin with Havdallah, have an informal short service of reflection, continue with refreshments, a movie with the theme of change and growth and end with a discussion about some of the movie's themes. This is a very moving and beautiful ceremony enhanced by the music of Cantor Camhi, a creative service, fantastic and creative refreshments prepared by Stella Stanway, the feeling of community and the reflections of the Days of Awe. There is no charge, of course, and you are welcome to bring a friend. PLEASE LET US KNOW IF YOU ARE COMING BY CALLING THE TEMPLE AT 732-222-3754 |

Pictures Needed!
Do you have a great picture of a temple activity - a simcha, a wedding, an event, a special moment? - that captures just the right instance in time? We are in the process of redesigning the temple website (and the tentative unveil date is mid October) and are looking for pictures of temple events. All pictures will be considered (although not necessarily chosen) to be featured on the headers of the various pages. Please send them in digital form to rabbi@bethmiriam.org or drop them off on a thumb drive or CD by October 5. Thanks!
