First Female Lutheran Hymn Writer and Poet
Elizabeth Cruciger, like Katie Luther, was a nun who converted to the Lutheran faith through the writings of Dr. Luther and escaped the convent to live with the Bugenhagens in Wittenberg. She has the distinct privilege of being known as the first female Lutheran hymn writer and poet. In addition to being a close friend of Katie Luther, it is believed that Elizabeth sat at Dr. Luther’s table talks in Wittenberg with her husband Caspar Cruciger, a theologian friend and colleague of Luther’s. Living in Wittenberg, hearing the pure preaching of God’s Word, and sitting at the feet of the Reformation’s foremost theologians, she was inspired to write the text to hymn, “The Only Son from Heaven”

Hosting a Growing Young Book Club in your congregation?

A few congregations in our synod are organizing their own Growing Young book clubs. We celebrate that and encourage you to continue your work! If you are leading one of these groups and would like to both be available as a resource to other congregations who are starting a Growing Young book club AND receive the contact information of others doing the same, please add your information here.

While there will be no formal organization of these leaders, contact information will be shared so leaders can connect one-on-one or in groups as the need and desire arises.

                          Supply Pastors Needed:

As Laurie fills pastoral vacancies with supply pastors, she's still in need for two of our biggest Sunday liturgies: Palm Sunday and Easter. Two pastors are needed for Palm Sunday and 5  are needed for Easter Sunday services at congregations in transition.  If you're willing and able to supply please know that this would in no way obligate you to any future suppling.

Please contact Laurie directly at laurie@nepsynod.org or the office phone: 610-266-5101 ex. 10.

The ELCA's story is one of action. We act by listening to God's call to serve one another. We act by serving our neighbors around the block and around the globe. We act by sharing Mission Support. Through this sharing of Mission Support we continue to write our story of action together, as three expressions of the church -- Congregations, synods, and churchwide organization -- by sustaining our ministry together. God's Work Our Hands Sunday!
Save the Date: September 12, 2021

Congregations of the ELCA will come together for “God’s work. Our hands.” Sunday. Our church continues to live through the COVID-19 pandemic. Physical distancing has changed the way we worship and serve. But the need is great, and God’s church is at work. As we gather together in service to our neighbors, we are reminded of one of our most basic convictions as Lutherans: All of life in Jesus Christ — every act of service, in every daily calling, in every corner of life — flows freely from a living, daring confidence in God’s grace.
