International Welcome Weeks Events and Activities
FIUTS has twelve days of fun social events and activities scheduled during International Welcome Weeks to help introduce you to the University of Washington, Seattle and the Pacific Northwest, American culture, and of course, other students! These events and activities are a great way to get involved and start making friends as soon as you arrive. We understand that you may not be able to attend all events -- that's okay! Just attend as many as work in your schedule.

Explore the fun available right on campus with a variety of Campus Activities (Sept. 11, 12, 13, and 15). Get to know our on-campus recreation facilities at the IMA Experience: Games and Sports (Sept. 14), and learn more about the resources available at the University Book Store Welcome Event (Sept. 15). At FIUTS Camp (Sept. 16-17), experience traditional U.S. camp culture in a beautiful rustic setting.

Test out your knowledge of the world at FIUTS International Trivia Night (Sept. 18). The FIUTS Seattle Challenge (Sept. 19) will send you in a team on a city-wide adventure to find local landmarks and compete for prizes, wrapping up at the International Welcome Party. You can enjoy the wonder of the home-goods superstore during our Bed, Bath, & Beyond Shopping Trip (Sept. 20).

Explore sea life at the Seattle Aquarium before enjoying a Boat Cruise (Sept. 21) through gorgeous Puget Sound with all your new FIUTS friends! Then join hundreds of FIUTS community members who are excited to greet you at the Community BBQ (Sept. 22) at one of Seattle's most beautiful parks. Finally, get dressed up for Host Appreciation Night (Sept. 28 - homestay and Friendship Connections participants only).

Most International Welcome Weeks activities are free and open to all new international students. For FIUTS Camp ($60), International Trivia (price TBD), Seattle Aquarium (free but must register), and the Boat Cruise ($15), you must register in advance in the Welcome Lounge (Sept. 11-15 and 18) and purchase tickets with cash, personal check, or credit/debit card (Visa or MasterCard).
ISS Tip of the Week:

Entering correct off-campus address information into MyUW is very important! The government checks all international student addresses against a database from the U.S. Post Office. Small differences can cause an address check failure, and this will block your registration in SEVIS.

The most common mistake is including the name of an apartment!

Video Intros to Seattle
A group of FIUTS students called the Student Programs Committee has put together a few videos to help introduce you to Seattle. There's one showing you how to use the transit system near campus, a quick tour around campus, an intro to sorting your trash, and an intro to campus water fountains. Check them out! (And look for opportunities to join FIUTS committees when you arrive in the fall.)
Don't forget: All students (undergraduate, graduate, exchange, transfer, F-1, J-1) must complete immigration check-in with International Student Services (ISS) by checking in at their FIUTS International Student Orientation Session. ISS staff will review all new students’ immigration documents and contact information that is required by law.

We hope you found this information helpful. Please contact us if you have any questions about the International Welcome Weeks program.

See you soon!
