Worship: 8:30 & 10:45 am
Education 9:30 am
Third Sunday after the Epiphany

Scripture: Luke 4:21-30

This week we continue the story of Jesus’ first sermon in the synagogue as told by Luke. When we left off last Sunday, Jesus had just sat down to teach after reading the Isaiah scroll. What comes next has been studied and debated by scholars and theologians for centuries. But as we learned last week, Jesus was clear on who and what his ministry was about. It’s the rest of us who struggle and continue to debate – who’s in and who’s out? Who’s included? And if everyone’s included, as we like to say, how does that actually work?

Adult Education, led by our Youth Minister Chuck Pickrel, will look at some of those same questions with help from a Ted Talk by Megan Phelps Roper. It will be a powerful presentation with plenty of time for discussion as well. Don’t miss it!

AND, we know there’s some big sporting event this Sunday! The Saint Andrew Angels (our 3rd, 4th 5th grade youth group) are making sure we don’t forget those less fortunate as we prepare for our Super Bowl parties. They’ll be collecting funds for the Souper Bowl of Caring, with all collections going to Center of Grace feeding ministries here in Olathe. Watch for them after either service

See you Sunday!

Music this Sunday:
Darin Seidel, Cindy Egger-Farris & Alex Waller

The next major milestone: interviews and this week the committee will interview two candidates for the interim position. The Called Pastor Search committee is identifying logistics of the search process. Included in the process will be listening sessions. The committee will use these sessions to gain your input on a new pastor. Keep an eye out for listening sessions to be scheduled in the future. Please continue to keep both committees in your prayers.

Engaging with the Other with Rev. Chuck Pickrel

Chuck Pickrel is the Youth Minister at Saint Andrew. He has been in professional youth ministry for 13 years, and works with young people and adults from all walks of life through Regional Youth Cabinet, programming at Tall Oaks, National Youth events, and retreats/workshops all over the country.

Souper Bowl of Caring
February 3
Over 29 years ago, the Souper Bowl of Caring began with this prayer from a youth group: “Lord, even as we enjoy the Super Bowl, help us be mindful of those without a bowl of soup to eat.” Since then, over $143 million has been raised for local charities providing food to hungry people. Support the Saint Andrew Angels next Sunday as they raise funds after services to share God’s love with those in need. Every dollar donated goes to Center of Grace Community Dinners, our 2019 Souper Bowl of Caring charity of choice.
