Worship 8:30am & 10:45am
Education 9:30am
Eighth Sunday after Pentecost

Scripture: Ephesians 1:3-14

Look around your house. Try and locate items that you've inherited. Whether a loved one gave it to you while they were living, or left it to you in their will. Or maybe someone else kept it for you and passed it along later.

In my house, there's a clay pot my grandmother once bought at the Grand Canyon--to my knowledge, the only time in her life she traveled west of the Mississippi. We have a watch that once belonged to my husband's grandfather. And a ring bearing the Greek letters of my sorority, left to me by a church member who was an alum of the same chapter.

These keepsakes come to mean a lot to us, especially if they've been passed along for generations. But I bet, for each of those articles you can locate in your life, you could tell a much larger story about the person who gifted it to you--and what they really left behind. The sum of your inheritance probably amounts to much more than physical property.

We're still talking about life, purpose and legacy in our summer worship series. In the letter to the Ephesians, Paul writes to the church about "our inheritance as God's own people." What does that mean? What have we inherited as people belonging to God? And what are we supposed to do with it, other than keep it on a shelf to look pretty?

Join us Sunday for worship, and a Picnic on the Plaza. It's our annual Twinning celebration, so we will celebrate our sister community in El Salvador with a great meal and live music. We'll also introduce Chuck Pickrel, our new youth director! Come meet him and help us welcome him to Saint Andrew.

See you Sunday,
Erin

Twinning Celebration Picnic
and Meet our new Youth Director
July 15
11:45, Friends Hall & Patio
We have lots to celebrate! It’s the 26th anniversary of our partnering with the Salvadoran village of El Higueral, AND we’re welcoming our new Youth Director, Chuck Pickrel! We’ll have live music from Andean Express, and a piñata for the children.

Church Life will supply meat and some simple dishes.  Please sign up to let us know you will be attending; as we need to know numbers for planning.  Please sign up to contribute traditional basics.  Do you make a great salsa or pico de gallo?  Do you have a favorite tortilla, or taco shell, or taco chip?  Maybe you want to supply lettuce, cheese, sour cream, chopped onion, sliced tomatoes, olives, or whatever makes your taco or taco salad just perfect. There will be music and laughter and news from our sister community -- and bring a frisbee or two, just for fun.

Intergenerational Book Club

July 29, 3pm

Youth Room

SACC folks, we're doing it again!  We're offering another book discussion for ANYONE in the church.  The book is again a young adult book with the theme of redemption.  It's called The Seventh Most Important Thing by Shelley Pearsall.  The story starts with the main character, Arthur T. Owens, throwing a brick at an old "junk man."  Luckily, the man survives and his arm is only broken.   Instead of pressing charges, the junk man asks for Arthur to work for him.  And so begins a story of redemption and transformation for Arthur.  If you're a person who believes in second chances, then this is a great book for you.  In addition, this book has some surprising twists and turns.

Please join us on Sunday, July 29 at 3:00 p.m. in the youth room to discuss this.  Tell your kids that this time SNACKS will be available.  Come and discuss this book with us.  All are welcome.  Contact Crysta Baier at cnbaier@gmail.com if you're planning on coming. We have 4 copies of the book available to purchase, for $5 each. They can be paid for and picked up in the office on Patty’s desk on Sundays or during office hours.

Migrant Farmworker Service Project
August 6
SACC Youth and the mission committee invite you to join us as we head to Lexington, MO to work with the Migrant Farmworker Project! We’ll deliver backpacks filled with school supplies and sort and distribute food bags and children’s books. Everyone is welcome! Meet at 2:30pm in the SACC parking lot. We’ll have an orientation and sandwiches when we arrive at 4:00pm. We need rsvp’s to make sure we have enough drivers – and please let Denise Dugan or Jerry Daugherty know if you can drive. We’ll be working outside, so dress accordingly, and closed toe shoes are suggested as there are lots of pallets with rough edges. We’ll serve clients from 5:00-7:00, and then head home. We should be home close to 9:00pm.

Staff News
Denise Dugan, Associate Pastor of Faith Formation and valued member of our ministry team and congregation, will be on Sabbatical August 26, 2018 through November 25, 2018. During her sabbatical she will spend time in a variety of ways. Denise plans to study new and different models of congregational faith formation for children, youth, and adults including Intergenerational Ministry. She plans to take time for study and reflection to expand her own spiritual practices and explore new ones. Denise will take time to retreat for personal renewal as a minister. Finally and most importantly, Denise will have the opportunity to set aside some intentional time to disengage from the 24/7 nature of ministry and enjoy family, friends and travel.

To support our clergy's sabbatical time, the personnel committee and Leadership Circle seek to provide funding to help support the expenses of their professional development. During the budget period last December, we were unable to budget the total amount requested to fund Denise's educational opportunities. In addition, grant funding was explored but was unavailable.

I ask that you consider providing a donation specific to Denise's sabbatical fund. The donation will help support the personal and professional growth of a talented minister who has been supporting our children since Saint Andrew was founded. If you would like to contribute, please include Sabbatical in the memo section of you check, and place your donation in the basket with Denise's name in the Hearth Room.

As a congregation, we are grateful for the gifts of our ministry team and value the opportunity provide for their rest, renewal, and spiritual growth.

Should you have questions, please contact Kathy Marian kmmarian@gmail.com

Mission & Outreach
The Saint Andrew Mission Team resolves to seek God, create community and practice justice by actively promoting congregational engagement in the community, both locally and globally.  Here is a current Mission Committee Update.

Saint Andrew/Migrant Farmworker Project Backpack Project 2018

There are 65 students that need our help this year.  MFP is asking SACC to help supply backpacks filled with school supplies to children of farmworkers who follow the fruit harvest throughout the US.  Helping MFP help these students with the basics enables them to succeed in a challenging educational environment, moving from school to school as their families follow the harvest.

This year SACC has again partnered with an educational products supply company to furnish the school supplies and backpacks at a huge savings. A backpack complete with school supplies is on $15!  Will you sponsor a student (or two) with a backpack?  Please contribute $15 per backpack.  Donations payable to SACC with "MFP" in the memo line.

There is occasional heavy lifting involved and the leader role can be shared.  If you are interested in helping, contact Judi Barkema (jabarkema@gmail.com) for more information.
