Monthly Mailing Information

As explained previously, monthly materials will be distributed digitally beginning in January. In order to reach the widest audience, synod staff decided to send the materials to everyone subscribed to E-News as well as to congregations and rostered ministers (who previously received the “monthly mailing” via the post office). If you subscribe to E-News and don’t wish to receive the monthly materials, here is how you can opt out:

At the bottom of every email you will see the notice below. If you wish to unsubscribe only from the monthly materials, be sure to click on “update subscription preferences.” If you click on “unsubscribe from this list,” you will no longer receive any emails from us.

Flood Recovery Volunteer Opportunity

in Schuylkill County

In July and August 2018, severe rains and winds inundated many parts of Schuylkill County, PA. Even though we are months after the storms, many people still need recovery assistance. The Schuylkill County Long Term Recovery Coalition, United Methodist Committee on Relief, Lutheran Disaster Response and the Schuylkill Association United Church of Christ Disaster Fund, along with many other partners, have been coordinating the recovery efforts. Many homes have been restored but there are still homes that need to be rebuilt. Funds raised and grants from partners are helping to get this work completed. However, volunteers are needed. The work involves installing insulation and drywall/wood paneling; installing base board radiators; installing kitchen cabinets and sinks and bathroom shower/bath, toilets, and sinks; installing a sump pump. One home needs cleaning and disinfecting and some light carpentry work, including installing a new basement door.

Accommodations: The parsonage of Trinity United Church of Christ, Tower City, is available to house volunteers. There are 2 1/2 baths, including 2 showers and a full kitchen in the house. Arrangements can be made for either week-long or week-end trips. Cost: There is no cost. However, your group will have to decide how you are going to handle meal/grocery costs and preparation. Minimum age is 16 years with Parental Consent Form. Group size is 12 maximum. Adult to Youth Ratio: Each group must include a minimum ratio of at least 1 adult to every 4 youth of each gender. If you are interested, please contact Linda Frey at lwfrey@epix.net or call 610-657-4730 for more information.
